For me, it's not about right or wrong. And actually, reading that article, Manny may be getting hustled. Arum can only guarantee $6m because there is no profit he can give Manny. The $22m is a promise based on what they hope final profits will turn out to be. It's a safe bet that it will but there are other expenses (and possibly other advances) that may reduce that #. That's why Arum can guarantee only $6m. Simple.

But that article ties in with a lot of what's going on lately. Sounds like Arum was losing money on those fights and/or he couldn't give Pacquiao what he promised based on the total profit. It's no wonder he needed HBO's help this time around...and it's no wonder this next fight is taking place in Macau. Interesting times over at Top Rank.

terrible deevel916. you have no shame. you are right that what's reported to/by the commission doesn't tell the entire story of what a fighter's total purse is. you are wrong on everything else-especially your cosigning of the TS.

Maybe top rank need to pay pacquaio opponents more to secure the fight and sign a contract with top rank to prevent the fighter from signing with gbp and al haymon where there are more elite fighters and more potential big match-ups

I think it's pretty obvious that they are, at times, able to pay more simply because they pay Pacquiao a lot less than Mayweather.

            Chris Algieri - $1.5 million
            Total $11.5 Million

Canelo Alvarez - $5 million guarantee
            Marcos Maidana 1 - $1.5 million guarantee
            Marcos Maidana 2 - $3 million guarantee
            Total $9.5 million

It's interesting that Chris Algieri is getting paid just as much as Maidana got paid for his first fight with Mayweather. Even more interesting is that Rios earned more for his fight than Maidana earned in the rematch.

Also worth noting is that Cotto earned $12 million vs Pacquiao and $8 million vs Mayweather. Does anybody know why Pacquiao's opponents get paid more?
            simple....
Fighting Manny you are expected to take a beating. Just look at the faces of opponents or ones leaving on stretcher or wheel chair. They need more money.
Floyd on the other hand fights with pillows on his hands...as well as he MAKES his opponents do the same. Most of his fights are boring and easy. Paid of refs and opponents and the potential of taking any punishment from Floyd is rare unless you get hurt in a clinch or trip trying to chance the coward around the ring.

Cotto only had a 5 million guarantee to face Pac, not 12.

Like Pacquiao cares what his opponents are getting paid, truth be told it isn't down to him anyways.

Mayweather co promotes his events so has more of a say, and as fighters are begging to get in the ring with him he can undercut their pay packet.

Does he give up any PPV revenue to his opponents?

He did to Cotto and Canelo. I think Maidana too.

Strange Floyd would then insist on no PPV upside for Pac, whos a much bigger star than those guys.
