Yeah man. Or maybe he doesn't want to understand it. I have to commend him. I wasn't quite convinced he could pull it out yesterday. And I've been thinking that for some time but he always finds a way. The performance was terrible but he did what he needed to in order to win. Can he make it through his next two fights without a loss? I don't know. But regardless of whatever happens in the future, he's carved out a special career.

Are people really shocked by this? He is pushing near 40 years old. Of course he isn't going to look how he looked when he was 25-32 years of age. He is out of his physical prime. So he is going to slow down the more he fights. He is lucky he has all that skill and ring IQ to get him by because that is something very important for the type of style he uses. He also took very little punishment throughout his career because he is not a knock out artist and he never really gets into wars.Comment

There is no shame in it or anything, it's just human nature. All you need to do is look at him now compared to 4-5 years ago and it's clearly visible.Comment

I don't like grouping Whitaker, Mayweather, Hopkins, Jones, Ward, Rigondeaux all together. I think a lot of fans like to lump up fighters together like that, I feel it's inaccurate.
I think Toney(prime), Mayweather, Rigondeaux and Lara share a common style.
I think Hopkins and Ward share a common style.
Jones is another style, that is copied today by Gamboa, Martinez, Pascal, but not as good.
Whitaker had a style of his own and I hate to see it lumped together with Floyd's style, I don't see all that many similarities TBH. With Whitaker's style it just looks like so much movement to keep up with as you age. I don't see how you can use Whitaker's style at 35-40. I can definitely see Mayweather, Rigo, Lara using their styles effectively(still winning at the top level) at 35-40.
Sure they all have their level of technicality but from watching Whitaker footage, I don't see how that's a safe style to use for an older guy. It looks like you have to be a young guy to pull it off successfully.
Toney's another one that declined at the same time. For the same reason. The pattern is pretty clear.
It's all about the time at the top level.
Toney in 94 compared to Toney in 2001, same fighter? No.
Taking punishment really doesn't mean all that much. In camp and in the ring you're always going to get hit and hit a lot.
Rigondeaux will likely go on into his late 30's because he's only had 12 fights and he's 32 or however old he is.
Feel like I'm repeating myself.Comment

He's almost 40. Of course he's lost a step, several in fact. Floyd just isn't as fluid and he's not pulling the trigger like he used to.
I thought he looked ok until Maidana cracked him with that punch at the end of the 3rd. That punch messed him up pretty bad. That shot was as flush as you'll ever see landed on Floyd. It took him most of the 4th to recover. I'm interested to see how he will look against a different opponent. He's going to have some issues against someone with a really good jab.Comment

I'm more impressed with that murderers row of opposition. He actually fought the best guy each and every time. Looks like we just witnessed the best era of welterweights, ever.Comment
