Anyone's who's been in a gym before, you can't blame too much of what happened on Mayweather.

The kid wanted to step up when that one guy wanted to spar Ishe Smith. You can find overly-confident boxers in any gym. So they let it happen, but they didn't let them spar, they had an exhibition, a keep going till you give up type of fight, and if its up to a fighter, they'll never give up and only get themselves hurt.

I don't believe it happens all the time in the gym, but watching it through Showtime just adds too much to it especially when they started throwing down bets.

That general thing does happen all the time though, 2 guys settle their differences in the ring with some kind of different stipulation. Some of the stuff that went on seemed like playing it up for the cameras, but normally the things getting screamed and shouted getting played up for the cameras are getting said in hushed toned or just getting thought.


Normally you don't act like a fool like that if you are a non fighter in a gym because the guy that you are clowning is still a fighter and they might not take kindly to such talk especially if they just lost a battle of pride.

When reading that quote from Larry Merchant, this quote from Max kellerman came to mind after Ortiz quit against Maidana: "In boxing to be great more is required of you than in any other sport, more is required than is really reasonable and Ortiz just made a decision he may live to regret".

Pretty prophetic but Ortiz is a tree, let's not forget that . There will never be another Larry Merchant. He goes down as my favorite commentator of all time in any sport.

If Floyd went and showcased more of Big Boy Mansion and his cars, they would be complaining. We get inside session into one of the doghouse fighting sessions and what do they do? Complain even more.

Anyone find it ironic that the two fighters who have shown the most remarkable longevity of this generation (Hopkins and Mayweather) were the product of these harsh career shortening training methods. With the exception of a couple reputable posters who raise valid points about the brutality of it (if this is in fact a frequent occurrence at Mayweather Boxing Club), I stick by what I said earlier in the thread. If this was Golovkin outside some ring in Kazakhstan he'd be being praised for teaching kids how to be real warriors and how it proves how much tougher Eastern Euros are than American fighters.

According to this thread, people in Thailand making their children fight for money is ok because they're getting like $50 for it. People making animals fight to the death for money is ok. Mayweather letting up and coming professional prize fighters, get this, fight is terrible. While showing this on All-Access might spread what is generally considered poor practice to other gyms and that is a bad thing, I think the outrage is misplaced. How many hack trainers are out there teaching kids god knows what as we speak? Look at all the fraudulent karate and MMA gyms that popped up as those sports were popularized in America, they're the problem. With boxing, who knows how many hundreds or even thousands of fraud trainers have started screwing kids up in the Philippines since Pacmania?

The outrage shouldn't be at the methods of the gyms who have consistently produced top quality fighters, it should be at the actual problems. Do you know what you need to call yourself a boxing trainer? A heavybag, a jump rope, and a business card. While I feel that Showtime perpetuating bad practice on their show is problematic, this outrage is entirely misplaced.

It was pretty sad man, kind of like a real life Fight Club or something. He had some 18 year old kid fighting a grown ass man and then was mocking the kid in the ring. He then had the one dude fight Rakman's son so he could get revenge for his little bro and they sparred for 30 minutes while Floyd and his boys made bets on the sparring. It was like dog fighting or something.

Absolutely disgraceful. They're like Mayweathers personal amusement, nothing more, he even admits it's not right. He personally forces them to keep fighting too.

Nobody is being forced to do anything, you have young hungry fighters wanting to impress and earn respect. They're also wearing Head Gear.

Relax, Boxing is a Brutal Sport and this stuff is very common, for many this is the first time the probably seen inside a Boxing Gym and what goes on. EVERY BOXING GYM have their classic GYM WARS.

Some Fans just sit at home and search for things to B1TCH ABOUT! You complaining about hard sparring but then turn around and complain when fighters are Defensive and avoids punches PICK ONE you A.D.D. having ***ers!

How did it feel to know people who don't even care about boxing around the world spent two days laughing at pictures of your hero face down KTFO? How does it feel to know the first thing people think of when they think of Manny isn't his arms raised in triumph, but rather him face down on the canvas ****ting his pants?

Ok so by your own criteria Manny's wins over Cotto and Margarito are worthless because he didn't fight them at their best. His wins over Morales are worthless because he didn't fight him at his best. His win over Oscar is worthless because he didn't fight him at his best. Glad you agree that some of Manny's best wins aren't as good as people want to pretend.

So if Manny is 3-1-0 because of a scoring error apparently we can go back and revise any of the fights. I'll even spot you the scoring error in the first fight. I've now DQ'd Manny for hitting Marquez while he was down in the second fight. Ring Magazine Reader's Robbery of the Year in the third fight so Marquez wins that one too. Then we have KTFO6. Looks like JMM is 3-1-0 against Manny now.

Like usual, trying to avoid the point. The judge made an error and didn't count a knock down. That is not the same as a judge having his own opinion and gave a score to Manny or Marquez.
You asked what if Manny won? If Manny won it would have been 3-0-1 for Manny. If Marquez didn't win not even once then there is NO POINT in a rematch! Nobody would have bought that ..... but we both know that everyone would have bought to see a fight after that KO! ..... but again, you are a Floyd fan and would prefer that they do like Floyd and put roadblocks instead of seeing a fight!
