  • all the *****s got their butts whipped every day in the gym

you can get better without taking a beating like that. that was freaking ridiculous.

it did make for great TV. i was entertained. that doesn't mean it's what sparring should look like.

if you're at a gym, and people are getting beat up like that regularly, you should leave.

    • I didn't think opinions on this matter would vary this much, but I also remember Mosley having that kind of sparring in preparation for Cotto which boxingscene posted in the 'Boxing Video' section. Me, I don't find that kind of sparring to be necessary at all.

She was saying Polo (as in Marco Polo, cause the fighter's name is Marco).

        • Related to the topic. I remember an interview with Mayweather where he spoke about giving up in a sparring session; he said the guy couldn't hit him but he got so tired. He was 10 at the time, the person he sparred was 17; his dad laughed at him for quitting.

I honestly don't know what people think a career in boxing entails. Yeah, how the sparring went down was nasty, but what, exactly, do people think happens when someone steps in the ring in front of thousands? A fighter quits and he gets booed out of the arena; a fighter is disliked, and he gets drinks thrown over him and people making memes at the expense of his pride.

It's an eye opener for those who think it is easy.

            • An "open session" is when no punches are pulled and if someone is stunned follow ups are still coming.
However everyone is different as to their needs to get ready for a fight. Some guys want and need more rounds than others, some will only get timing and defense down and be ready. Everyone has different needs and a good trainer can see that and has the communication with a fighter to employ what he needs.

The gym setting in question seems to be there for the "gym observers" entertainment, that's pretty weird to me. I was not impressed with the one guy using words like "kill" and I think he said "murder"!! I know he doesn't mean it literally but those two words always need to be left out in boxing.

I knew these guys when they were young USA/ABF amateurs and always liked Roger and Floyd was ok too. They came up having to prove themselves in the gym and were probably a bit abused. Its what they think is right and weeds the soft from the herd.

People think their great trainers because of Floyd Jr. career but they really haven't had any success with anyone they developed. They have their way
of doing things but in no way are they top flight trainers to me.
They were better fighters than they are trainers by my observations.

I really don't understand all the 'dog pound' stuff,-dog fighting is a disgusting, cruel and selfish crime.

Anyone who enjoys it is a coward, and IMO the lowest form of life on the planet.

Dogs are not given a choice to fight, the saddest thing here is that Floyd's groupies DO.

Which pretty much sums up TMT.

'Money, Power, Respect'...GTFOH, it looks like a ****ing zoo in there.
Exactly what it looked like. Pack of wild animals, not a professional gym.

And that kid (from Manchester?) didn't want to fight, he already had a fight that day but the cameras were on him and people were ganging up on him.

Rahman's son is a numbskull coming looking for revenge just because his brother took an L.

Floyd knew it was wrong too, you could see it in his face when they were nursing their injuries.

I think the point here... Which you obviously don't understand, is that sparring is meant for practice and refining skill. These boxers either have to give up or get knocked out to lose. Factoring in pride of fighters, cameras, and wanting to impress, these fighters are taking a serious risk. The 18year old was much smaller then the English fighter. He could have hurt himself. The bruises on the English guys face in the second match shows significant damage.

People here are saying it is an unprofessional boxing environment and unsafe. There is nothing wrong with that, even if your a fan of an unsafe sport.

There is a saying that the number 1 job of a trainer is to keep their fighter safe. I didn't see that in this video.
