The way a thread works is usually that the OP poses the question and the subsequent posters attempt to answer or offer theories regarding that specific question.

If you want to pose your own question about the perceived level of scrutiny Floyd Mayweather gets. Make your own thread. It's not hard.

Cotto wore Everlast MX and he is considered a puncher. Did Mayweather not consider him a threat? Cotto punches at least as hard as Maidana but less than Mosley.

Yeah that was the exception I found. I wouldn't say Cotto was necessarily a puncher in the same way Maidana, Ortiz, Mosley are though.

Floyd was very specific about wanting Cotto to be "comfortable" in that fight because of what was going on with Pacquaio at the time. He conceded on the weight and seemingly the gloves.

Perhaps after the rough night he was given, his thought process changed again.

Are you kidding? Cotto is on a KO streak right now, stopping Martinez. Something a lot of you totally didn't predict. Cotto is not a puncher?

Cotto was also at a higher weight at 154 lbs, so he'd potentially be stronger, translating to more power in his punches.

If Canelo didn't wear Grants already, he would've wore his glove of choice as Cotto did as well. But of course, Canelo gets dismissed since he wears Grants by default.
Cotto is on a KO streak of 2? One against a cab driver and the other against a cripple which was a 9th round corner retirement. He's a very solid puncher no doubt but he's unlikely to spark you out with one shot.

And like I said, Mayweather was on that whole Pacquiao tip at the time. His whole selling point for that Cotto fight was that he was going to let Cotto do whatever he wanted since Pacquaio made the catchweight demands etc.

Did the busted nose and rough night make him reconsider?

Floyd's decisions and statements contradict each other becuase he has no principles. He only does what suits his best interests.

If by "puncher" you mean one punch power, I still think Cotto ranks above Ortiz and Maidana but lower than Mosley.

How come you didn't call Martinez a cripple before the fight? I bet you were one of the guys that predicted Martinez would KO/TKO Cotto. Cotto hits hard.

I don't necessarily agree with the whole selling point regarding Cotto. I think you forget that Cotto had a unique situation in that he could land a fight either Pacquaio or Mayweather. So in order to sway Cotto into a fight, I think Team Mayweather knew they would have to make their offer better.

Because I didn't know how bad his knees were. I mean, it's not that hard to understand. I even used the caveat of saying that the only way Cotto has a chance or wins is if Sergio's knees are ****ed. How could I know for sure exactly?

That's quite a good point. Cotto was the most popular girl in school around that time.

I don't know man, these look like really bad knees, the way he sprints across the ring so fast?
