Pattern in Mayweather's Glove Selection Process?

Just did a bit of Google image research since the topic of Mayweather's choice of gloves against Maidana is hot right now. I noticed a bit of a potential pattern.

Does Floyd tend to choose his opponent's gloves when he considers them to be a puncher?

Ricky Hatton and Juan Manuel Marquez were never threats to Mayweather in terms of pure punching power. And what do we see? They're wearing Everlast/Reyes gloves whilst Floyd wears his usual Grants...

His next fight was Shane Mosley. Shane is considered a huge puncher and from what I've seen, he wore Reyes in almost all of his fights leading up to Mayweather but then....

Robert Guerrero was coming up from lightweight and doesn't really have any pop. He was allowed to wear Reyes by Floyd....

    Thoughts?

Victor Ortiz is another puncher. Usually wears Reyes. Against Floyd....

Not that it's weird for a superstar to play games like that. He almost certainly picks and chooses who to make gloves an issue with.

Honestly, if this had happened behind the scenes and ahead of time for the first fight, most people wouldn't even know, let alone care. It was the fact he threatened to walk the day of the fight that made it such a b*tch move.

I'm sure that there are plenty of things in the contracts that give him advantages that we probably don't know about. But that is just the way it usually is with the A-side.

Until we get a commission that regulates the sport or unless the current commission grows a pair we will continue to see **** like this.

Yeah I'm sure there's all kinds of **** in the contracts. I'm just trying to get an insight into his thought process.

Guerrero wasn't directly coming from 135, he already had two wins at 147, Aydin and Berto and he showed power against Berto. He actually showed more power against Berto than he ever had at 135, which made people believe 147 was a better fit for him. I mean it probably is, but I think he's still the same weak puncher who just faced a fragile chinned fighter in Berto.

Did he show power against Berto? I just remember him mauling him and roughing up but not actually hurting him with anything in particular.

I don't consider him a puncher. I'd feel pretty safe knowing he was in the ring with Khan. That's my litmus test for punchers.
