Cotto Regressing & the Magic Man?

I know the Cotto guys are going to call me a hater again but they are so wrong. Again, I thought this kid had great potential when he came out but to me it seems like he is regressing every fight. Now I know alot of you probally thought he looked great tonight but I didnt. Im seeing a guy who is now confused.

1st he was this great boxer/puncher but then he ran into some solid vets like N'Dou who could take his punch and give it back. Then they put him in with smaller guys who he just tried to come straight out and KO them but they would flip the script on him and he would be in trouble. Now because he has been shook up so much lately, he comes in tonight against a guy who he should just come straight at and put the pressure on but he decides to play it safe, take no chances, and just wear him down. He still got hit too much and took too long to take this guy out who was really made for him.

He is confused because he tried to immediatly KO the guys that he should take his time with because they are either punchers or vets, and now he is trying to mess around and take his time with guys he should just try to immediatly KO. Dude is going backwards and if any of you saw this fight tonight and still think that Malinaggi has no chance then you are insane.

Branco still had some moments and Branco has no power either. Now you bring in Paulie who is a much better boxer then Branco, and you dont think he would give Cotto any problems? It took Cotto 8 rounds to stop Branco and he just stood in front of Cotto all night and it wasnt even a real stoppage. I told you guys it is not that simple to just walk through guys. If Branco can go 8 rounds by standing in front of him the whole fight then Paulie can definatly go the distance if hes moving the whole fight.

He could frustrate Cotto just as much as the Lacy fight. Ofcourse it wont be that bad but Cotto definatly wont dominate this kid. Was I the only guy who was upset that HBO didnt let him be in the Post Fight Interview? That is how you sell the fight. No one has a bigger mouth then Paulie and it was in PR. It wouldve been great to see him and Cotto in the ring face to face giving a interview.

Anyways, I think Cotto is a great fighter but they have protected him so long that he is starting to regress. It is obvious his camp is scared of his chin and they want to stay away from punchers, so Paulie will be the next fight. I think Paulie will win but even if he doesnt then Cotto has to step up the very next fight and atleast take on a 2nd level guy like Gatti.

The more and more I watch this guy, the more and more I think Floyd or Hatton would kill him. I cant believe alot of fans and writers were saying this kid could beat Floyd or give him a run. He better step it up because instead of getting closer to the elite competiton, his skill level is actually going the opposite way

    ya
i cant put my finger on it
    but this fight
he did look a bit unimpressive
still like a good solid fighter
    but idk
    somethin was missing
he does seemed confused about what kinda fighter boxer he wants to be or should be
i think we all know what he wants to be
    what all pros want

Cotto corner said it LOUD AND CLEAR after the 7th round. FINISH HIM OFF! and he did. I mean if Cotto wanted to KO him earlier he could've i know it. You seen Branco in the 1st 2 rounds. Looks like Cotto just wanted to fight instead of just Knocking this guy out. He is trying to take those rounds and use them up for his upcoming fights! Gatti could be next after Paulie. That's if Gatti beats Baldimor. Then Cotto will take Gatti's belt.

Just relax what fighters do you know had big ass fights in there 25 or 26 fight and yet be successfull? I know there were some but not everyone had big fights in there 25-26 fight. Cotto's camp just thinks that he needs a lil more training and more fights. The most.. 1-2 more fights should be good.

I'll say this,I think cotto's big fight is over due.Ive thought for a while that he's just taking risks for no gain taking these type of fights. But I dont see how the Paulie fight is an improvement.Youll see cotto shine against top opposition, win or lose you'll see how great he his.

I'll give Pauile some credit although to this point I havent, like you said cotto got tagged tonight, and he'll probably get tagged with pauile, because he had to follow around bronco, and He'll have to follow along Paulie.Paulie has a chance,I guess to in a UD.But,i just see this as another one of this iffy, but ZERO REWARD fights. What does cotto gain from fighting Paulie? ****ing nothing. You cant tell me otherwise man.

So what would you think of cotto if he beat paulie DLT? Would you still have the same doubts you have in this post? I hope not, since your putting so much emphasis on Paulie.

            Hmmm...

Ok, Baya will probably hate me for this (sorry, dude), but I think Paulie has the best chance of beating Cotto than anyone else currently fighting at 140 (not counting PBF because he's moving to welter). Some might say it's Hatton but Ricky is a warrior and, with Cotto's power, he could get hit, hurt, and KO'd but Paulie is going to get on his bike and just box all night.

Cotto's style is one that isn't built for boxers (his body isn't eather as he's small and has SHORT arms). Paulie is going to jab, jab, and jab some more. While it's true that Cotto probably won't be hurt by Paulie's punches, enough of them will get through to win rounds.

Cotto will have to cut the ring off and get at Paulie on the inside. I think it's a matter of if Paulie is fast enough in moving out of the way more than if Cotto has the ability to cut the ring off.

I can still see Cotto pulling out a come-from-behind TKO in the late rounds as Paulie will eventually make a mistake and get caught here and there. But, look for the first 4-5 rounds to go to Paulie before Cotto is able to catch up to him.

I don't like this fight for Cotto. I can't see him winning a decision against Paulie unless he's able to catch him early and scare Paulie. If Paulie can pull the first 5 rounds, he'll probably win by decision if Cotto can't TKO or KO him.

You've been here for awhile, and with every post I've pretty much seen you repeat the same thing over and over and over. "I Like Cotto, but he's getting worse and will lose" blah blah.

I don't understand how you can beef at all with this performance. Cotto was never some extremely elusive guy. He showed a tighter defense earlier on, and I think he showed a pretty good defense here...taking a lot of shots on his gloves and avoiding some hooks and such. I think he got back to what made him look so good earlier on against guys like Sosa, Bazan, Maussa, etc. He boxed with patience and picked his spots...mixing in that disgusting body attack that really discouraged Branco from letting his hands go.

Comparing Malignaggi/Cotto to Lacy/Calzaghe sounds a bit off base. Calzaghe has POWER, is a PROVEN champion, and gave the performance of a lifetime against a very dangerous guy. PM, for the time being, is a huge question mark in terms of how he'll deal with a guy who is potentially an elite fighter.

I agree with you about the whole post fight deal. If they are going to sell the fight, they should have let Malignaggi step in the ring and have some words with Cotto to market this thing. It could have an interesting back story with the whole young slick Italian American kid vs. the young PR boxer/puncher champion.

I have become a lot more realistic about Cotto's conquests in the future, and believe that his bigger moments will come at 147. I'd still like him in a bout with Hatton, he'd have a serious uphill climb with Floyd. I don't think that after 26 fights against really solid competition we can necessarily call him protected.

Also, what has Malignaggi done/shown/beaten that makes you think he could deal with Cotto? Or is it you think Cotto has taken this many steps backwards?
