Im not sure about that, I have no problem with him winning, but that was quite a close fight, that depends on how you scored the first half of the fight before brook established his jab.

now brook can hold the title for a while.

Brook did the cleaner punching, but there wasn't a ton of it and his holding, particularly in the first half of the fight, was excessive. Points have been taken for less in other fights.

Porter's aggression was incredibly ineffective and when it became clear that Brook was going to tie him up inside and get away with it, Porter didn't have a Plan B.
Porter shot himself in the foot. If he wasn't being so dirty and rough on the inside, I would bet that a point would have been taken for holding, but the ref was taking a tit for tat approach to the fight. You use your head, I'll let him hold you.

Brook surprised me with some craft though on the inside. He smothered Porter very well, and quite craftily.

With that said, I am really getting sick of british fighters coming over here and holding their way to an ugly win than proclaiming how great they are like that is what they had trained to do.

The scores were 114-114, 117-111 and 116-112 for Brook.

Porter was being rugged in the first round and trying to rough Brook up for most of the round. Neither fight landing anything of note in the early going. In the second round, a clash of heads opened up a cut above the left eye of Brook.

I picked Porter to **** Brook....but c'mon man, the fight wasn't close at all imo....Kell boxed Porter's dome off....I'll watch the fight again later and score it but from the naked eye...it looked 9-3, 8-4 for Brook

I thought Porter would be smart and allow Brook to come to him early and work the counters....but nah, he came out the box with leaping shots and all types of wild ineffective punches while Brook picked him off and apart all night....impressive performance from Kell....props!!!

how many times did their heads clash? 2 or 3 times? brook must have held well over 100 times without a point being taken off. the result=sh-it fight. vik drakulich would have made this fight entertaining. oh well. another boxing masterclass. ward agrees.

That's what I'm saying, brook controlled the fight. Porter is too basic. I've been saying this since before his title win. I'm the scholar of boxing.

              • Brook reminded me a lot of Andre Ward in there. I know, I know. I'll most likely get slaughtered for making the comparison, but Brook's power jab is something you don't see from too many fighters anymore. Every time Porter came rushing in, he was met with Brook's jab and it disrupted his attack. That and the heads-up clinching was very Ward-like IMO.

Brook should go North and fight Ward -- because Brook is the only fighter to date who will be able to out-headbutt and out-clinch Andre... Unfortunately Brook is too small for Ward...

Yes... I've just posted the same thing while I didn't see your text here...
... Though Ward performs better in hiding his dirty tactics...

Because, as usual, the British fighter was an 'overhyped Brit'. Doesn't matter that most hadn't seen him fight, they were happy to predict the Porter win anyway- Porter obviously having the better skills, stronger, quicker, all because he was the fighter they knew and had seen fight. There was even an argument that Kell Brook wasn't as tall as he looked.

It's nice to see most posters now acknowledging Brook's ability, and most admitting they hadn't seen too much of him (even though that didn't stop them predicting Porter TKO4).

Carl Froch still goes through this treatment pretty much every fight here on NSB.
