Who will you be rooting for: Hopkins or Kovalev?

I want Kovalev to win because we need a changing of the guard. Hopkins is almost 50 years old and personally I think that he has stayed on for too long. So I believe it's time for some fresh new talent in order to bring some major excitement back into the sport of boxing.

However with that being said, I just don't think that Kovalev will because has anyone paid attention to Hopkins' past few fights? I have yet to discern any noticeable decline in his boxing skills. If anything he is fighting even better than he did almost a decade ago and wouldn't be surprised if he dropped Sergey to the canvas at some point with a punch.

So unless the Krusher can badly hurt him to the body or knock him out, I just don't see him winning this fight.

I've gone full Waco Texas on this one.

For the past fortnight I've been indoctrinating myself into The Cult Of Bernard by re-watching the boxing masterclass he subjected Trinidad to. I did start with the dismantling of Pavlik but it wasn't quite whipping me into the frothy mouthed frenzy I was aiming for.

Come the end of the week I'm sacrificing my neighbour's cat and smearing it's innards across my face whilst echoing a shamanistic chant around the Hopkins shrine that was once my daughter's bedroom. "B . . . Hop, B . . . Hop, B . . . Hop B . . . Hop." (She's been shipped off to her grandparents, when she's older she might understand, and if not. . . "Meh". Some things are more important than family.)

My capacity for critical thinking has now been fully dulled and I'm ready to hitch my soul to the phosphorescent tail of The Alien's comet. Brace yourself boxing immortality, Old Man River's coming to get you!

Time for Hopkins to retire. He's amazing for his age, but he also has been fighting weak quality lightheavies. Hopkins claims an injury and stays in his corner between rounds. Kovalev TKO.
