What bothers me is that it's obvious showtime is in the wrong here but you still keep crapping on the guy who's standing up for himself. So what really is your agenda? Do you work for showtime? Are you the one who sent these 'spam mails'? I don't get where you're going with this.
No because it didn't address how a type ad guy could be expected to win something like this. I understand that necessity sometimes stifles creativity, but nothing in his portfolio suggests he has the necessary skillset to depict 2 fighters, and win a contest doing it.

I champion different causes. Usually just speak my opinion when I have one. Sho and Floyd have no allegiance from me, but I am being nothing but factual when I say no one at Sho looked at this kid's portfolio... If they had, he would not have got a letter. Which, by the way, was sent en masse. That en masse false sense of exclusivity spam is done all the time, "pre approved" credit card offers for instance.. that still require a credit check. Same concept.

So, knowing his art style aint even what they want, he siezed an opportunity to get a little publicity. And detractors of Floyd and Sho descended on the matter like a pack of vultures on their favorite dead meat, acting all of a sudden like they are stalwart arbiters of business ethics and morality.

    Self....... righteous.

So my question then inevitably becomes... did someone at Sho, or Floyd, steal your high school sweetheart or what?

You're still in here defending Showtime? Did they give you free tickets to Vegas, or you just in a contest with Dunn and company?

I typically respond if someone quotes me and says something. Unless it just gets sad...which it has.

No.. It was some idiot at Sho or contracted by Sho that sent blind invitations without checking anyone's work. If they had done a little due diligence their quality of submissions for this contest would be higher. Plus they've given mismatches recently and I'm not super excited about the undercard...

But.... None of that changes the fact Sho never even saw the kid and he's acting offended like they sent him an exclusive offer after having raved over his work. Or that it's a publicity stunt,

Some of the responses here are ridiculous.
The notion that a major event / corporation is holding a competition instead of contracting someone to do the work is the real issue.
Some often have the audacity to charge an entry fee on the back of such approaches.
To those who say it'd be great if he won he'd get loads of publicity, what so more people can ask him to enter their competition!? Prizes are great but they don't put a roof over your head and that's the bottom line.

Your earlier post in this thread proved that you immediately took showtime's side without even researching who Dan was. You have no clue at all about the design industry which is the only reason you continue to bash Dan. I tried to inform you about some of Dan's background but you insist on taking Showtime's side and prefer to blindly support showtime for some weird reason. You obviously has no respect for the design industry and professionals in the field who makes their living with it. What kind of a fool gets mad at someone who stands up for his career and bash him because he actually has pride of his work and knows he's better than get hussled by a big time corporation? That doesn't make any sense whatsoever.

He should have just declined the offer like a gentleman. Showtime emailed him with all respect and he should be glad hes even getting considered for that art thing. Respect begets respect. He was like a girl for even posting it. I would understand the business side that he wants but that was just disrespectful. Now what? Does it make him feel better now that he posted it?

So showtime which is a multimillion dollar company asks a professional to do work in exchange for a chance to win a prize.

I call that not showing any respect at all, asking a professional to do work for free.

I think the reason he shared it and it's gone viral is to highlight the issue of companies trying to exploit artists.
Like others have said it's borderline insulting

This guy is not a boxer, he's not even an athlete. He's a tub of lard who sits in his mother's basement doing little paintings for the bare minimum. This come up could have put him on the map big time but he chose to be a **** about it.
The ******ity of posters on NSB continues to astound and make me feel embarrassed for some of you guys.

Do you know what a professional is? It's someone that pays their bills with their craft. Not someone in their Mom's basement, like yourself.

                      Look at this guy's clientele:

                      MCSWEENEY'S
                      HARPERCOLLINS
                      BECK

                      NIKE

                      VH1
                      LANDS' END
                      MTV
                      CARHARTT
                      FORTUNE MAGAZINE
                      GOOD MAGAZINE
                      ACE HOTEL
                      FORD

Expecting him to work for free because they're going to show the painting for five seconds on Showtime is like offering Floyd Mayweather the opportunity to fight for free on Kell Brooks undercard so he can gain exposure.

You are a moron. Log off.
