Why did he resign with a promoter that is ripping him off.. Ward claims he has been ripped of since he turned pro in 2004..
Ward is claiming that Goosen was dishonest and did not disclose money made in fights for Ward between 2004-2012. Cited specific examples of fights with Bika, Abraham, Froch and Dawson.
The problem with all this is that Andre Ward re-signed with Dan Goosen in May of 2011. After fights with Abraham and Bika had already been completed and his showdown with Froch had already been negotiated for.
Was he not aware of these so called in discrepancies by goosen then? If this was happening where was his manager, lawyers and people who we're suppose to protect him before signing a new contract in 2011? If the money wasn't adding up why didn't he look to sign with GBP or TR?
Something doesn't add up. And the fact that the courts have several times ruled in Goosen's favor suggest what's not adding up is on Ward's side. Seems like he signed a deal he's no longer happy with and is crying and moaning to get out of the contract rather than honer it.
I don’t disagree with most of that, but I do feel it’s a bit naive to say “if it was a bad deal it is no ones fault but his own for taking it”. Most boxers agree to terms early in their career that are unreasonably biased in favour of the promoter in the long term, because the fighter isn’t very established and therefore doesn’t have much to negotiate with. The problem with most contracts are that they are too lengthy. It breeds animosity later because the fighter is bound by a somewhat out of date contract.
It’s not black and white, so depends on the particulars of the given contract. But, do promoters misrepresent a fighters’ interests for personal gain. Fuhk yeah!
Every fighter on planet earth knows this already, there is no excuse for ignorance.

He resigned with the same "scum" and on top of that he tried suing him already and lost. How can you not hate a guy who does **** like that?

Yet he has lost everything he has claimed against him so far.
He's been getting ripped off for a decade, yet praises his promoter and signs a long extension with him? Nothing off about that
What a bunch of misrable cvnts. Its not like promoters have not, in the past taken advantage of fighters is it?
What is so awful about asking a promoter to buy out the contract? Ward is not a commodity he is a human being who depends on his own ability and he does not want to be promoted by Goosen... As a promoter what is in it for Goosen to force Ward's hand? I mean the guy has lost trust, so let him buy you out.
I mean its easy to yell at Ward but how would you like to be partners with people who you despised? I bet there are maybe...a few people here who even know what its like to own a lucrative venture where you put your ass in it and have to work with people you no longer value or trust....
Well if you know the feeling then you can understand that Ward has a point. Be the better man and put a worth on the contract and let the man go! Goosen is the prick here. All the people critisizing Ward should have the experience of working your ass off enriching people who you despise. Then if they feel the same they can yell at Ward.
Ward also has other problems alludded to: he is basically untouchable. Who can compete with him? Kessler my azz. Froch? yeah sure thing. This guy has beat the best and made it look easy. Too bad for the haters on that account truth hurts but the bottom line is Ward has little left to prove and has no obligation to enrich somoene who he does not want to, with his labor...its why contracts get bought out and how evil bastards like King, Arum and apparently Goosen are exposed.
I would love to put Witherspoon in a room with King and lots of sharp objects around. let Tim have at it...promoters are for teh most part bastards who do not give two ****s for the fighters they promote. King cast the die and Goosen is goos-stepin in synch with the tradition. If Arum King Goosen went to hell in a handbasket tomorrow boxing would be a better place....Schaefer also.
Realest post I've read so far. If you're not going to get the man fights, let him out the contract!

Because he's the boy who cried wolf. How many times has he tried to take Goosen to court to get out of his contract? if there's actually something behind this, then maybe people will stop bashing him.... but you know what it looks like right now?
What the hell has Antonio Leonard done for Ward, anyway? He has NO FANBASE in California and what little fanbase he has in the Bay Area has been steadily shrinking.
