We see some big mismatches in this sport but this was one of the worst...EVER.
Dude, NSB completely talked themselves into watching. They talked a big game about how disgusted they were and then most of them watched anyway. It's clear by the comments the day of and after.

and all those little wannabe activists talkin bout "boycott GarciavsSalka" "boycott this" "boycott that" pathetic, but they sure as hell watch Canelo demolish Josesito or Alfonso Gomez, or GGG destroy his weak opposition, hell even Wilder fightin obese men hahaha

Lmao I agree. And seriously Rod Salka (and all the variations of his name like Salsa, Salaka, Zaltza, etc.) was the most typed boxer name on this website during the weeks leading up to the fight. 99% of it were people clowning, but still, talk about mad press.

I bet for every 10 that said they weren't going to watch...nine did.

They indirectly promoted the fight, only to watch it themselves too.

I did not think it would be too bad. The casual never saw the uproar and the dedicated fans watched anyway either because it is still boxing, or hoping it would all backfire LOL

I was not sure all the negative buzz would create less or more viewers LOL

              The facts:

Caparello was ranked in all sanctioning bodies rankings

Caparello is actually in the division Kovalev fights in

This fight did not headline a complete card on HBO

Danny Garcia got paid 600k for a tuneup fight against the #77 ranked fighter two divisions below him.... at a catchweight. Kovalev probably got paid peanuts to stay busy against a top 15 ranked fighter. Whom he only fought because his attempt at unifying the division fell through.

On top of all that..... Kovalev nor his team are saying he's the greatest thing since sliced breat for beating Caparello. They immediately signed a unification fight with Hopkins. Meanwhile, Espinoza, Gomez and everybody else involved with Salka-Garcia is justifying it and actually saying Salka earned it

Kovalev-Caparello was not nearly as bad as Garcia-Salka. it's not even in the same stratosphere.

Was it a mismatch? Yes. But you know the reasons for this mismatch, and Kovalev isn't getting paid half a million for that mismatch.
Was it a mismatch? Yes. This is all that matters. Your points are fair and true but in your own words they didn't change the fight from being a mismatch.

If mismatches are bad for the sport-as JFSD26 posted-then this fight was bad for the sport because, as you described it, it was a mismatch. that's my only point. To debate which is worse has no bearing. they don't give you more time for murder with a gun than murder with a knife.

You are trying to differentiate between Kevin Ware, the kid from Louisville that had a compound leg fracture, and paul George, the nba player who had the same injury. the circumstances were different. how they did it was different. they still have the same injury.

We can debate in private so as not to ruin your thread.

just a minor reflection of dudes loving the sport more than hating a particular fighter or match up.....love is a mother****er lol

Ok, but i'm still shocked. Even a lot of danny fans on NSB said they wouldn't watch. I had one of my TV's on the fight but didn't really pay attention to the 1st 2 fights.

I mean more people watched all these fights than watched wlad on espn. dannny v salka did better than the HWT champion of the world on a network in 10 times as many homes.

                    Unbelievable.

okay I won't derail this thread any more but real quick, now that I think about it.....

Is fighting the best available opponent (for cheap) really a mismatch? Because that is exactly what Caparello was - the best available opponent
