Cotto shows this kid how you REALLY throw a left hook to the body.

Cotto's not a real MW, but he won a belt in that division. If Canelo makes the weight, he should be able to fight for the belt too. It's not the fault of the fighters who are able to make weight for a particular division, then rehydrate closer to their natural weight. It's the way boxing is set up that's to blame. I've heard more than once & agree that weigh-ins should go back to the way they were in the old days, on fight day.

[QUOTE=ssc73;14838184]We will agree to disagree. Who is the black/hip-hop community going to get behind after Floyd? Broner?

"..black/hip-hop community"??? I didn't know they were synonymous. Thanks for clearing that up.

White folks will buy Golovkin fights and Ward fights because there is an appreciation for that level of a fight. I'm not saying 1 mil buys is par for the course. I'm saying it's ridiculous to consider that a failure.

I'm also saying that Golovkin alone will attract 350K buys in a PPV (like Bradley v Marquez) after a few more appearances with the top WW. When he fights Ward on PPV, that number will at least double. With careful matching and buildup, it will be able to break the 1 mil buys barrier when the Mayweather/Pac/Cotto era closes out. Particularly if Golovkin takes out guys like Canelo, Jacobs, etc. and Ward takes out Chavez Jr.........good or not his name and his fights sell.

WW-MW is the 'new HW' for interest in US boxing until we get a real HW champion.

By the end of 2015 when Floyd and Manny are wrapping up, those two guys will be top 5 P4P if they continue to perform at current levels. And I would NOT be surprised to see them 1-2 if a couple people lose or remain inactive.

I don't see any reason why that fight can't do 1 mil buys. It should. Golovkin will probably have the bigger drawing power by then because of the KO's....it won't mean he's better. But unlike the egos fighting over the biggest fight in history now, GGG will gladly take 50% to try and prove himself and Ward will do the same..........

With no Top Rank garbage undercard, that fight could do serious $$. There are a lot of ifs there, but it can happen. I believe it will.........
I think you are very optimistic about GGG's potential star power. Overly optimistic IMO. But we shall see.

Only thing I can tell you is that Canelo fought 3 of the slickest guys on all boxing weightclasses. Trout, Mayweather and Lara, He might haven't had a lot of success, but he landed some good punches that no other dude would've been able to land.

Trout floored for the first time of his career, Lara cutted for the first time of his career, and Floyd........................well you know landing on Floyd is like winning the lottery.

So even thou it was little if Canelo was able to land those clean shots on those guys, I wouldn't be schoked if he kO's Cotto.

I'm gonna be honest with you I see Canelo destroying Cotto, and not because I think he's more skilled than him, it's just because I think that styles makes fights, and Cotto would stand there for the beating of his life.

Put Canelo against Andrade or Jermell Charlo and it's gonna be a long night for him, against Kirkland??? now that's a FoTY candiddate, of course as long as Kirkland survives the first 4 rounds of the fight.
He only beat Lara because he threw 2 more punches a round, that is not a "close fight" that was a robbery. It is the Clottey win for Cotto, he won because the other guy didn't do a thing. At least for Cotto he had a cut that required 20+ stitches, Canelo simply didn't have the ability or ring IQ to win that fight, he got lucky. He also didn't win a round against Mayweather, even if you think Cotto only won 2 or 3 rounds (4 IMO) he didn't do as badly as Canelo in any round as Saul did the entire fight. They are on different levels and when they fight we'll all see this happening in real time.

And Canelo did better than Cotto against Trout, so how does that fit into your triangle theory?

Regardless of who Mayweather chooses to fight, he will be fighting on Cinco de Mayo weekend on PPV. No casino in Las Vegas would choose Cotto/Alvarez over Mayweather vs anybody and there is no way HBO would be willing to go against Mayweather in a PPV showdown. Also, whoever he chooses to fight, whether it is Danny Garcia or Amir Khan, Mayweather will get more PPV buys than Cotto/Alvarez would if they fought on that date.
