He fought Zab for the same reason PAC fought Rios. It was pre negotiated between Arum and Don King. And when was Margarito ever the number 1 guy? He was the WBO champ which wasn't even recognized as a major title until 2007. After he beat Cotto maybe but that was years later. And we all saw what happened in his next fight.

I've said it before as well as many others before me.

      Liston was a bum,
      Frazier was a bum,
      Norton was a bum,
      Shavers was a bum,

And these were some of his best wins...

      Sadly.

This follows an era where mike tyson could fight peter mcneely and sell 10 times as many ppvs as chavez v sweet pea.

We are, for better and worse, in an era where stars get paid to showcase their skills moreso than fight the best.

Also, fans don't penalize fighters for not fighting the best. Ali had no choice. Leonard, Robinson, Duran, Hagler had no choice.

        That ain't the case today.
If it's all about money then the Floyd/Manny fight was supposed to be the richest in history, so no, I don't, for a second, believe that pile of ****.

Yes money is a major factor but it is not the lone factor, it's pretty simple, Floyd has skipped out on multiple top level opponents in the past and Manny is just on that list. He will fight him next year now that Pacman can't gobble as fast as he used to.

Other guys, like Ward are even worse, suing their promoters and then moaning about not getting fights lol Look at Oscar, one of the richest fighters ever and a a PPV draw for far longer than Floyd and Manny have been, yet he consistently fought the best. He took challenges and he did that because he wanted to prove something.

Ali, Frazier, Foreman, Leonard, Hearns, Duran...they all wanted to prove something. Floyd believes he doesn't have anything to prove or tries to convince himself he doesn't but it's clear he is insecure and will hate himself once he retires because he will not be able to hold down what he did.

It's always fun to see Mayweather fans try and drag other fighters from the past down to his level. They can't actually defend Mayweather anymore, so they're having to resort to baseless conjecture to make themselves feel better about being cultists for a self-proclaimed "rich coward."

So when u see Floyd getting $30 mil+ for whoever he fights how can u blame him.
They both fought different level of opposition...
Where Floyd has had some mega paydays against some fairly dangerous opponents he hasn't fought the main money maker that he could have fought and still very well could fight and for a huge sum of cash no doubt.

Personally I'm a fan of neither men, one was very talented for his time and the other Floyd obviously a great fighter but just not a very likable type of character but I can somewhat admire them but we can always find faults with both characters careers and in most cases most fighters have something you can fault them for.

The two wins he had against Norton were robberies and the Shavers win was a robbery...
Liston was a controversial figure and that had been proven...
Factor all of those things into his career it doesn't look as impressive as some make out but his best win is likely to be Frazier who barely fought any real big heavyweights.

Sure it was an okay win but we can't forget the fact that Foreman was treated like a criminal in Africa he had to get his food transported over from USA to Africa so he wouldn't get poisoned...

In my opinion that doesn't merit to a full credible win over an opponent plus I don't think big George a man of god who pretty much always spoke the truth would lie when he said he felt like he was poisoned that fight, what reason does he have to lie If he did lose against the suppose to be GOAT?

Muhammad Ali wasn't all sunshine and rainbows far from it If anything he was affiliated with dodgy men who would do anything it takes to get their man to win.
