A light heavyweight unification bout is in the works between Sergey Kovalev and Bernard Hopkins, providing that Kovalev gets past Blake Caparello on Saturday evening in Atlantic City.

Rumors of the dream matchup began to swirl Friday afternoon, and were confirmed by Main Events, Kovalev’s promoter. The planned bout will take place in early November, either in Atlantic City or at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

“I heard from Eric Gomez (Thursday) at around noon, who said he’d like to get the deal done,” Kathy Duva, head of Main Events informed BoxingScene.com Friday afternoon. “He explained the terms in which they wanted the fight. Anyway, I'm 50/50 about this fight. Kovalev is a beast, but he's there to be hit and can be sloppy at times. I can picture Hopkins giving him a boxing lesson on the outside, then frustrating Kovalev on the inside with clinches, headbutts and other dirty little veteran tricks. But can Hopkins handle that kind of aggression at his age?

IDK if he can or cannot but it will be answered. I always said it from a martial arts point of view, cant bet against the guy that has been doing it for a long time, only needs one opening to take advantage. Krusher tends to jump into his punches at times so i think thats when he needs to get him and get him early or get him real tired.

kovalev is not pavlik; he does not fight in straight lines, his arsenal is deep. at this age hopkins just won't be able to handle it. i have a great deal of respect for hopkins but i think the beating he takes in this fight will be hard to watch. he may even quit early.

I like Kovalev and certainly do not like Hopkins (even tho I respect what he's done). But I wouldn't mind seeing Hopkins beat Kovalev just so that I can say I witnessed Hopkins become a legend before my eyes.
