You're missing the most important and obvious reason.

Golovkin deserves his shot at THE middleweight championship. Why are so many people against Golovkin getting a shot at THE middleweight championship? They were against it when Martinez was champ, and now they're against it with Cotto, too. The sooner he gets it, the sooner he moves up and fights all the fights everyone wants.

You'd almost think certain fans don't want Golovkin to accomplish anything for some reason.

We need new face of boxing because apparently Canelo is only good champions not ATG material at all.

with Floyd and manny retired in the next two years GGG is good candidate to replace them, Good looking, strong fan base, exciting fighting style. he need to learn speaking english and challenge the elites! he can fight cotto at 160/154, ward at 168 or even canelo.

He wasn't exactly big enough before the Murray fight, and people understood Sergio taking the Cotto fight, but had Sergio won the backlash to fight GGG would have been even worse. I'm pissed because GGG has been in waiting and now that Cotto won his fans are already asking for other fights, all of which don't even include a actual middleweight.

There's us a poll on thus site that believes 90% of the fans think GGG beats Cotto. I think so too. But as areal fan why the hell would I want to see a fight where we pretty much already know the outcome.
What happened to the real fans wanting real fights?
