Didn't Canelo-Angulo and Canelo-Lara sell the same as Cotto-Martinez? Cotto is called the 3rd biggest draw. Yet Canelo just matched Cotto-Martinez PPV buys with fighters who have never been on PPV, and nearly doubled the PPV amount sold with their common opponent Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Only time Cotto did better in recent years was with Trout. Cotto-Trout did 1.4 million on the ratings, and Canelo-Trout did 1.1 million.

Canelo and Cotto is a natural fight and it will generate at least 600k PPV's, median prediction is 800k, and if the fight is hyped up and promoted to the max I can see it breaking 1 million and beyond.

I can see Cotto being the A side and and breaking 1 million units only if it's on Cinco De Mayo..

Someone already mentioned it. Pacquiao has had two PPVs in December. Mayweather vs Hatton was also in December. There's no reason why Cotto vs Canelo can't be held in that month and be successful.

If they wait until Cinco de Mayo they'll be competing with a Floyd fight which will cut into their sales anyway, so December IS better since they'll have it all to themselves.

The alternative is to wait until the Puerto Rican Day parade which means we'll have to wait almost an entire year for this fight. Cotto might lose or look bad against a healthy middleweight or he might give up the 160 lb belt by then. Why not strike now while the iron is hot?

Where brig PAC and Floyd having theirs in a year stuffed with high end ppvs? 7 ppvs this year all 55+ dollars. Add to that if Chavez Jnr fights in January, that's three straight months.

Every bodies numbers already took a hit, if it happens then it'll be no exception. It also doesn't help that it's during Christmas time. Normally wouldn't be that big of a problem..... But being the 8th PPV this year? Casuals are the ones who drive the ppvs and even they need a break

As for cinco de mayo, they're not going to have it te same day. If it will, itll be more harmful to showtime/Floyd than HBO. That entire show would cost, at most, a little over half of what Floyd gets paid.

Only way Floyd sticks with May is if he's too prideful to move.
