Comments Thread For: Garcia-Salka And Thanking/Blaming Al Haymon

There seems to be two camps these days when it comes to SHOWTIME-televised cards – those who thank Al Haymon for the opportunity, and those who vilify the high-powered, low-profile adviser.

The latter camp has come out in full force over the upcoming August 9 show, which is headlined by a perceived mismatch between lineal super lightweight king Danny ‘Swift’ Garcia and Rod Salka. The media grilled the fight as a weak challenge for Garcia, considering that Salka—a fringe contender to begin with—is moving up two weight classes from his last fight to campaign in a 142 lb. non-title fight.

""""Absent of the desired matchup headlining the show, GBP does its best to make lemonade"""". Uh, you mean does its best to make lemons.

When will these fighters speak with themselves and take control of their careers? I just don't want to hear from these same guys 10-15 years from now complaining about how they left money or legacy fights on the table

If u love boxing, boycott this card. Only way as fans to show your disapproval is to not watch. If ratings are horrendous hopefully it will help prevent cards like this n the future

it's kind of hard to say no to salka or however you spell his name, for Garcia it's easy fight, easy money,i mean who wouldn't want that? get as much money as you can fighting these guys, then go against a tougher fighter, then again some easy fights which equals easy money made,i'm sure he's thinking about his future but the only problem I have is calling yourself the best fighter, dont do that,oh and Oscar really needs to not try to explain to us how good of a card this is,he probably feels like a fool when interview is over

I understand why Haymon does what he does. It's his job to make money for his fighters. If he can make garcia a million dollars for a fight but he is guaranteed to win, then do it. It is up to Showtime to tell him that they refuse to buy a fight of that caliber. Showtime and golden boy deserve more of the blame, as they should have refused to make and televise this garbage fight

Espinoza is trying so hard to be the most powerful and best known exec associated with boxing that years from the now the effects will be felt at Showtime. Haymon and Schaeffer built all of their shhh on the back of Floyd using him as leverage while negotiating his deal they negotiated deals for themselves/fighters in the process. It's one of the things that irks me about Floyd, he may have gotten what he wanted in the end but at what cost? Guys like Quillin have earned a fortune not taking on a single legit threat yet and will continue to do so because of course Espinoza wants to keep team haymon happy.

                    Danny's days are done.

Herrera kicked his butt. He was a major hype job. Buh bye and take the crack pot old man with.
