How about when he fights some real competition? Gennady is an exciting and impressive fighter, but when is he going to test himself? He's 32 years old and his "best" opponent to date is Daniel Geale? FOH!

So regardless of where GGG is ranked as a middleweight he is not ranked as a WBC contender. So to put it simply there is no obligation for Cotto to fight GGG, and could not be misconstrued as the title being held hostage if Cotto did not fight GGG because GGG is not ranked as a WBC challenger. The interim champ which is Rubio is supposed to be the next in line to fight for the WBC title, and after Rubio its Martin Murray. I would like to see Cotto fight Chavez Jr since we know Canelo aint happening till May of next year. I would like to see GGG fight Martin Murray because I dont think GGG can knock Murray out. That fight for GGG would do two things, it would give him a fight that many would consider his first real test and it would put GGG next inline to contend for the WBC title as WBC ranks. If canelo wins his bout, Cotto wins his bout, GGG wins his bout, GGG can go on to fight soliman or destroy Rubio while the winner of Cotto-Canelo faces GGG next

      WBC rankings

1 .- Martin Murray (GB) SILVER
2 .- David Lemieux (Canada) NABF
      3 .- Curtis Stevens (US)
4 .- Jorge Sebastian Heiland (Argentina) INTL
      5 .- Billy Joe Saunders (GB) COMM/BBB C
6 .- Andrey Meryasev (Russia) BALTIC
      7 .- Jermain Taylor (US)
      8 .- Domenico Spada (Italy)
      9 .- Matthew Macklin (GB)
10 .- Marcos Reyes (Mexico) FECOMBOX
      11 .- Ryota Murata (Japan)
12 .- Tureano Johnson (US) AMERICA
      13 .- Sergio Mora (US)
      14 .- Hassan N'Dam N'Jikam (Cameroon)
      15 .- Emanuele Blandamura (Italy)
Golovkin isn't ranked by the WBC because he's a beltholder, and beltholders from other ABC groups aren't ranked. Golovkin could beat everyone on that list and the WBC won't rank him because of his belt.

And FFS, you're using alphabet rankings? Look at them! Jermain Taylor is ranked above Matthew Macklin, how the **** can you use those rankings to defend anything besides hatred of the WBC?!

Oh please. Golovkin fights anyone that wants it but unfortunately the supposed top competition wants nothing to do with him. Also, I think his wins over Proksa, Rosado (Who Quillin had trouble with), Macklin and Curtis Stevens were much more impressive than beating Geale. Geale was an overrated fighter to begin with and going into the fight I knew Geale had nothing for Golovkin. Golovkin took Geale's punch and in the same motion knocked him down and ended the fight. Geale was not Golovkin's best opponent and I put him in the same category as Adama. Golovkin has done more than enough to prove himself and he continues to do that in every fight. He beats everyone they put in front of him and he's not afraid of anyone and feels his skills can beat anyone in the middleweight division. So far he has proven the doubters wrong with every performance but they are still in denial.

Exactly the same stance but watch the excuses, backtracking and contradictions flow

            • I look at it like this, no matter who Cotto fights, he still gets his share

If he fights Golovkin, he gets 8-10 million via PPV
If he fights Canelo, he gets 8-10 million via PPV

The only difference is how much the opponents make. Golovkin would make like 2 million and Canelo would make about 8-10. The only difference is splitting a larger pie evenly or taking a large piece of the small pie.

If he loses to Canelo, where does he go? If he loses to Golovkin, people will say he bit off more than he could chew and he would still get Canelo.

Actually this is very wrong. No way no how does PPV sell that well with a GGG fight. Cotto turned down 10 mil to fight Martinez, not counting the PPV revenue, so your math is a little off.

Also As much as I want to see this, Gaby is 100% right. GGG has yet to headline a PPV event. He just got his first big headline event at the big room in MSG and did not sell out the lower bowl. Thanks to Jennings he got a great attendance. GGG is building his brand, for the risk the reward is not warranted.

Let GGG be on the Cotto Chavez under card in December if indeed the rumors are correct.

Not even in the same stratosphere

If Cotto moves down then it's over with. But as of now Cotto is in Golovkins division. Ward isn't.

One guy would have to move up, the other wouldn't.

                  This isn't rocket science

The point is Ward is to much of a Risk for not enough revenue. Dummy

Cotto got 7 million to Martinez's 1.5. Golovkin is a bigger name than Martinez.
