This ain't the NBA, this ain't the nfl..Boxing doesn't promote itself as a unified body where that mentality you have fits. This is every man for themselves every time out, it's a solitary sport. A fighter is only as good as his most recent fight. You say a promoter just signs the checks..well explain to me why a guy like diaz would just say "It's too difficult working with Rigo". It was Diaz who got motherfk'ng rigo to leave the hotel and sightsee in NYC!! I mean when a guy like Diaz says "I can't work with Rigondeaux" you know there is a huge problem getting this guy to do what he doesn't want to.

Stop putting words into my mouth. Fighters can show up to fights for free, when was the last time you saw rigo at any fight where he wasn't upcoming in a fight of his own? So what you are saying now is rigo paying a g for a hotel and a flight is too hard on him? Manny and Ginger have what rigo wants! You think Arum was really paying for manny to come into america early on? It was Manny who took his own money and flew to L.A. to go mess with Roach and them people. Arum just got him there the full way. You can't tell me an idiot like Rios is getting top rank pushes..what marketing you see for brandon rios? None..he gets that press himself. Same with the garcia kid..both of them. Angel and Danny are at every east coast boxing event regardless if it's hbo or showtime...ain't nobody paying them for that.

First of all you can go literally walk up to a broom and go fk yourself coming at me like that. Now that I got that out of the way...My brother, Univision, Telemundo, televisa..how many spanish networks are there? How many fights happen in florida a year? How many cuban events aren't there in Florida? English isn't the issue.Rigo is an amazing fighter, one of the best of his generation but how many of the worlds greatest singers can't get a deal..or make the crossover? Its entertainment, the abilities are only half of it. Who was pushing marquez's career? Nobody. What did Marquez do? He said alright i'ma go do some announcing in spanish. Ok i'ma be at every boxing event in mexico cause cameras will be there. You don't have to agree with me but that's lazy made mentality. If someone ain't handing something to you go take it. If a motherfker too lazy to take the time to invest in himself he ain't worth you investing in him. Period.

Alright he's pampered but motherfkr if you looked like that and were an athlete you'd be pampered too. Let's not act ****** now. He's a good looking dude and he was marketable without boxing. The fact he boxes is an added bonus. Canelo could've gone and done a million other things besides box and people would still want him on camera. Also so you can stfu about that I ain't say nothing at all about him changing his fight style. I've said it before "I think Rigo is a perfect boxer" All i said is he refuses to go chop it up at events with people don't expect people to be calling him for interviews and shh. You see everybody else grinding between fights even the top stars. You think some promoter just handed it to floyd? You think some promoter just handed it to every other boxer? Everyone can't be DLH or Canelo, not everyone has that look. Everyone else is grinding to get theirs or maintain it. I ain't once turn on a spanish boxing show and seen rigo on it...and we all know them shows support the hell out of spanish boxers. I ain't that hard to mingle, shhh can't think of one single hispanic organization that wouldn't love to ooohhh and ahhhh at the presence of an olympiad and champion like Rigo but it ain't happening. Why not? It's your managers job to get you there and get it done.
      And that's it...

There was also a bigger demand to see some of these action guys fight these technicians to validate them. That is no longer the case. Some of these folks runnimg around calling themselves hardcore fans would be perfectly content if the jr feather and super middleweight divisions proceeded as if Rigo and Ward didn't exist. The networks and promoters know this. And because of it, a fan like me who wants to see the best fighters, regardless of style fight. We're getting shafted. I don't see what's off base about that. I also don't see how a person can call his or herself a fight fan and not wanna see the best fighters. I'm not a fan of Matthysse's style. But he's no worse than the #2 or #3 jr welterweight in the sport. So I wanna see him fight. I'm not sold on Kovalev, but I'm not missing his fights either. That's a fight fan. I don't know WTF this bull**** is most of these cats be talking about.
That mindset hasn't changed, it's just that we as fans have to stomach the best not fighting the best a lot more. It's naturally created excuses for fans to make why the best isn't fighting the best, such "price isn't right" or "he's boring, I want to see action."

Boxing fans still want the best vs. the best, regardless of style, and make excuses because we have to justify this bull**** sport somehow.

In the last five years or so, basically during the height of the Floyd-Manny nonsense, several casual fans became hardcore followers because they were caught up in that drama. We've seen viewership of guys like GGG and Kovalev reach near record highs. And these morons that deepthroat them don't have the boxing IQ to appreciate a guy like Rigo. Who on his worse day has more talent and skill in his pinky toe than either of those ass clowns. And what's worse is that these new aged imbecile hardcore followers applaud guys like Rigo and Ward being ducked by lesser fighters who happen to be more entertaining to the ignorant, uneducated hardcore followers of today. Ten years ago, GGG would have to see Ward, especially after agreeing to fight Chavez Jr at 68. Ten years ago, guys like Santa Cruz, Mares, Loma and anyone else would have had to see Rigo, and hardcore fight fans would have demanded it. But that day is gone. And those ignorant f.uckz that infest sites like this one are gonna ruin this great sport with their idiocy. I mean seriously. Rigo is probably the best fighter in the world and potentially one of the best ever. And not only can he not get fights. He can't even get his fights on TV. And ****** f.uckz, like the ones that infest this site applaud and think that's a good thing. Disgusting to say the least.
          ^^^^

          Great post.

Unfortunatly we live in a world where sport is considered entertainment and skills don't necessarily pay the bills. It's not about the truth it's about sugar coating , marketing and having other intangibles. Kovalev getting hype definitely not because his resume but because of his skin tone and Insane power. Same with GGG ( Personally think he might live up to the hype).

It's the same With Hip-Hop, TV, Movies . Apparently Iggy Azzeleas is hot fire not because of her talent( Doesn't seem she has much) but because she fits the mold to market and push. If you break down her skills it's embarrassing.

People don't want to think , just be entertained dumb it down to the lowest level. ( In boxing it means Power) that's why Honey Boo is famous or 2 broke girls is popular substance means very little.

Greatness like Rigo should be recognized not marginalized because he doesn't fit the mold HBO wants. Ive said it before and I hate admitting this but if Rigo wants the fame and notoriety his skills deserve he'd have to get a persona like anti-American , Iron sheik style to get casuals or boxing fans who don't care about the sport or skills something for their ignorant asses to talk about.

Read the whole thread and as usual Hitking brought his usual heat.( Sorry to keep pumping his tires )

Don't got to agree with everything he says but In my opinion he calls it like he sees it and is one of the most entertaining and has some of the best opinions on this site.
