  • Comments Thread For: Guillermo Rigondeaux Embraces The New Journey Ahead

    Guillermo Rigondeaux deserved better.

    It’s really that simple.

In just his 12th pro fight, he defeated reigning Fighter of the Year Nonito Donaire in impressive fashion, rendering Donaire’s two-fisted attack anemic while making him look silly.

Was Rigondeaux catapulted to new fame? Did he receive greater exposure while receiving the riches that accompany it? No, quite the opposite.

For his latest bout, televised Saturday on tape delay on Spanish-language network UniMas of all places, Rigondeaux (14-0, 9 KOs) was far from boring, as Bob Arum and HBO have suggested of the fighter. Rigo needed just one round to dispatch of Sod Kokietgym in Macau, China, though the conclusion came with some controversy. After a nasty clash of heads that left Kokietgym (63-3-1, 28 KOs) wobbled on the canvas, the fighters touched gloves before Rigo quickly threw a furious two-punch convo that put Kokietgym down and out. It wasn't anything like Floyd Mayweather-Victor Ortiz, but Kokietgym clearly was taken by surprise. However, that was his fault. He failed to protect himself, and Rigondeaux did touch gloves. I am an avid follower to Rigo's career, but Mr Hyde (lol) is not helping. Rigondeaux was smart on not closing the door on HBO; Hyde should have stayed quiet in that sense to keep the doors open and not speak his mind; It helps no one. It is no wonder no one deals with Rigo... his promotional team is a mess. I hope Rigo signs with a big promoter of the UK for frampton, kiko, or scott or dare I say sign with Haymon (It hurts to say it). Hyde is a terrible manager Caribe promotions does nothing for him... a shame really.

Rigo should move to Europe and sign with Sauerland (the greedy bastards, I know). Pure boxers are much more appreciated in Europe and I´m sure Rigo would become a big draw in Germany as long as he keeps winning (which he will). The casual American fans just dont seem to understand the sweet science.

Everybody wants the keys to the kingdom while sitting on their behinds. Sorry but Rigo is an athlete, part of an athlete's job is to promote his damn self. Why don't we see pictures of Rigo at events, charities, the boys club down in miami that has a nice boxing program? Oh that's right because in these people's mind it's only skills and skills should alone make him a star. If that was the case then Floyd wouldn't need to go on tours, make appearances between bouts, keeping his face in the mix, same for manny, canelo, golovkin, etc. Look at sergio mad crazy skills for years..took all the drama with williams and chavez to get him his spot. Sergio himself put together a campaign going across the u.s. putting himself out there as well. You can't be by the poolside in a pair of chancletas thinking because you can box that's all there is to the game. How many big @ss cuban stars are in miami that would jump at a chance to get Rigo coverage..well why ain't it happening? Bad management and huge ego..don't blame the promoter if you ain't willing to help your damn self. You came all this way from Cuba the least you can do is drag your @ss out to some events.

Hey High speed, Its the promoters job to promote a fighter, not only his fights, but the fighter itself, but the way boxing works nowadays, a promoter just collects checks!

hey scrotum did you read the article, they warned HBO about Agbeko once he feels Rigo's power he won't engage. Whats funny is he's record is 14-0-9, so only five of his fights has gone the distance smh

So what you are saying is top rank and hbo are right, rigo should be promoting himself with his $ and toprank jobs is just to collect the check. Are you insane who do you think finances may, gingers and manny's appearances. The only thing rigo should be doing is learning english
