Toney was competitive and embarrassed peter. I do stand corrected but if peter was such a force to be reckoned with, why could a blown up cruiser present such a problem for him? My point is not "triangle theory" because regardless of styles making fights, or particular opponents being a big problem, the skill level of a marquee heavyweight should be such that when a blown up cruiser...an out of shape cruiser challenges, he should not be much competition.
It gets better though. Peter had to get into what many considered the best shape of his life for that second Toney fight. Toney didn't just take punches either, he was competative and gave Peter quite a fight.
I just don't think one can say Peter was a really good fighter. Vitali showed that Peter was a clod. Peter was slow, had no reactivity in the ring, and ultimately was exposed as being far less than steller opposition. Kudos to Vitali for more or less showing how a strong heavy weight with a jab would deal with Peter.Comment

Do you really think a champion on the order of Tyson, Lewis, Liston, Patterson, Ali etc would have much trouble with Peter? Its a legitimate gripe...Look even Vitali who most consider inferior to Vlad (I don't) showed exactly what a champion with a decent jab would do to Peter.Comment

Eddie Chambers when in the worst shape of his career and operating at his slowest worst - easily beat Peter. He had less trouble with Peter than Wlad did.
What does Peter do for Chambers legacy? Absolutely nothing. So why would he be a highlight victory for former greats?
A joke like Peter would never had made it into contention. Tua was better than Peter in every possible way imaginable and he never came close to picking up a Belt because he campaigned in an era that wasn't a total joke like the one Wlad fought in- and Wlad still lost , struggled , fouled , cheated and required a tag partner to stay on top of it.
Hilarious you calling somebody else a simpleton. Your argument for everything is the same repetitive drivel an infant would dribble out.
You cannot put a case forward for these bums being any good. - your simple explanation is that they would beat the best of former era , despite the fact they couldn't even beat the worst in the ****test HW division since the 1880's.Comment

You don't really know what you are talking about do you?
Peter wouldn't have lasted the opening round against Mike Tyson or Joe Louis
MWs and LHWs beat and out boxed prime James Toney. A dangerous man at HW who bounced around Wlad Klitschko got out boxed by a fat and shot James Toney.
Toney who was years past it and not anymore good enough to compete in his own division went 1-1 over 24 rounds with Peter. Toney was robbed because he had no business or future at HW and because Peter was a Don King fighter.
.
Let that sink in before you glorify this Sam Peter.
Robert Helenius ended his career in a one sided mis-match and who was Robert Hinenius? A guy who was beaten pillar to post by Derrick Chisora.Last edited by Burt Saxby; 09-09-2015, 02:59 PM.Comment

Chambers stood centre of the ring and easily beat Peter popping out a jab. Chambers was too fat to move around.
Are you saying this didn't happen or did you just look up boxrec and saw the result was a majority dec making you think it was competitive?Comment

What you do mean 'try again'.

The fact that Peter and Chambers fought to an MD is a PROOF of the quality of Peter as a boxer, NOT the other way around!
As usual you guys take a positive and spin it to a negative.
Disgraceful!!Comment
