What he did in the first three rounds was nice but you've got guys like Floyd Sr calling him a flat out runner. There were some serious points in that fight where Lara wasn't throwing a single punch and circling the entire ring. He gifted away a TON OF ROUNDS he could've won with more activity. I've stated over and over again this is the big leagues, judges handling big events take into account the crowds perception of the fight as well. You can't paw at your opponent an entire round and think you'll win that round. Effective aggression will always win on the cards.

The bolded is simply not true:

Average Score From 89 Media Members:

    ***114-114 DRAW***

34 Scored for Canelo ***8211; 39 per cent
30 Scored for Lara ***8211; 33 per cent
    25 Scored a Draw ***8211; 28 per cent

In other words, according to 61% of the media scorecards, Canelo didn't win.

For the rest I can agree with you. Lara fought like an amateur , scoring points, he should have been more active.

But what did Canelo do to win the fight? take a stroll around the ring , while following Lara ?.

His power shots were mostly to the body, most of them where smothered or not exactly clean.
He only threw 29 punches more than Lara, it means around 2.5 more punches per round. Impressive!?

but i agree with u lara should of pressed more as he was the b side.
Missing wildly? So I guess all the grimacing Lara was doing was from the wind of the punches. Canelo may have missed a ton of punches but he landed a hell of a lot more than people are acting or saying he did. In fact he landed the harder shots while the punch count difference is like 10 punches landed.

I guess you don't understand what vast majority is. Vast Majority is the highest number out of the equation which as you so amazingly went ahead and post is that 39% of them said he wins. It's alright people are entitled to judge a fight as they see it themselves, the fact remains our scores don't mean shhh. I didn't know body shots don't count, last I checked this is not the olympics. A landed punch is a landed punch, you say they weren't clean lara's facial expressions and his rampant pawing while circling the ring say another story. I just have to laugh at people thinking a jab counts the same as a hook even though both punches have completely opposite spectrums of difficulty in being landed. A hook to the body in most people's books is the equal of 4 or 5 jabs.

I dont mind Lara's style but at least with Rigo/Floyd if they make you miss they make you pay with a counter most of the time. Lara just made Canelo miss and ran away. How can you win a fight like that? I had it 7-5 for Canelo, and im not a huge fan of either guy.

A disputed split decision loss will banish Lara forever?

                  Goodness…

Some of y'all are speaking as though he received a thumbs down in the coliseum.

It seems more likely that he will be in with some tough up and comers to regain some career momentum.

Lara still has a title at 154. If he is able to defend his title against some real badasses, then hey you never know.

wow that is very telling. majority of respected boxing media thought canelo didn't deserve the win.

                    canelo is a soulless fraud.

couldn't beat Trout decisively, got whopped by floyd (barely won ONE round), and didn't deserve the win against Lara.

people need to be real with themselves and realize that canelo is a hype job and not the future.

39% is not a vaste majority in this world, sorry.

And normally head shots are considered more 'important' than body shot when scoring . That is because one's head is smaller, more mobile, and more difficult to hit.
