Last I checked the difference between running and boxing is throwing punches, using your legs and not throwing punches is not boxing as simple as that. 117-111 is way too wide, but it's exactly what I expected which was Lara to lose the fight even if he won. Personally I think he lost anyway and I picked the wrong guy but it was close, Lara also gave me a lot more appreciation for Gamboa. Dood is the only Cuban who at least tried to adopt a pro-style instead of talk a ton of **** to be scared in there.
Damn I'm agreeing with a Cotto stan. I know exactly how you feel with Gamboa. Hell even JuanMa has grown on me big time, considering I used to talk shit about him. Dude is the epitome of a warrior, both him and Gamboa.

This is something I noticed while watching the fight. We are not scoring an amateur bout. We're talking about professional prizefighting, where power punches are weighted much more than simple jabs. Lara simply did not do enough and took way too many body shots. When the two were in the clinch, Canelo free himself by ripping to Lara's body. 116-112 Canelo. Should have been a UD.
Everybody isn't a power puncher homie. According to that logic, ATGs like Willie Pep and Sweet Pea wouldn't be ATGs. I think fans, media, and judges also get caught up in placing too much weight on punches landed based on the reputation of the guy landing the punch. And we have several recent examples of this. Floyd-Chino is an example. People raved over Maidana's bodywork, when Floyd's was actually better. Why? Because Chino has a reputation as a big puncher and Floyd doesn't. Nevermind that neither guy was ever hurt. Same with Algeri-Provo. Many gave Provo more credit for his connects than they did Algeri. Like the Floyd-Maidana fight. After the first round, neither guy was ever visably hurt. So how can we assume Provo is landing harder? And even if he is, so what. His punches were having same affect on Algeri as Algeri's were on him. Little to none.

I didn't say Lara's punches were softer, so they should be valued less. I said he landed mostly jabs. Lara's straight left was a good power punch, but he just did not throw it enough. He stuck and ran to the other side of the ring using his jab. As we all know, a power punch is any punch that is not a jab. In amateur fights, you get one point for a clean jab, one point for a clean power punch. This is not the amateurs. Power shots mean more.

Can we stop comparing Provodnikov-Algieri to what we saw last night? It is silly to compare the two. Algieri threw 993 punches versus Provodnikov and definitely did more than enough to earn the victory that night.

Floyd-Maidana is an even further stretch.

That's because I'm not a stan, I admit he is my favorite fighter but I try to be as unbiased as possible.

Difference between algieri and Lara, is that algieri actually let his hands go and threw combos and different punches.. Lara moved great but had nothing but jabs and the left

Lara edged it out by 1 point at the most but he should have been more active with his punch out put, should have sat down on his punches and mixed it up more. I don't like to use the word running because it's used too loosely these days but that is exactly what Lara did, he ran in that fight. And why no body attack from Lara, it was practically non existent which is a poor reflection on Ronnie Shields.
