I think people are getting too up & arms about this. Not too many people nowdays get belts at 2 weight classes at the same time. If he had beat Maidana easily then he would probably be fighting a 154 pound fighter right now and wouldnt have to worry about anything but since it was close and he's having a rematch, he has to do this to keep the 154 pound title. People make it sound like he's using the title but he's not. Its not like he's just a 154 champ and thats it.

The only way to keep both belts is to go back & forth each fight. He's not doing that because he's having a rematch so basically he's just using this for an extension. The fight will still be at 147 but with the 154 title also on the line. Thats all this means. Nothing slick in regards to Maidana except for the fact that if he wins then he gets titles at 2 weights. It wont be above 147 though but the 154 title will still be on the line. Nothing more, nothing less

Obviously this has happened once before with the WBC. The only time in history that has happened as far as I know was Ray Leonard and Donny Lalonde. The fight was for Lalonde's light heavy weight strap and a belt at the newly created 168 pound division. Donny weighed 167 pounds and Leonard 165 (wearing a jump suit and over 100 silver dollars in his pockets). It was a great fight, but obviously a huge farce in calling Leonard a light heavyweight champ.

I disagree because any obligations Floyd has at 154 are then shot down since he would have just successfully defended his 154 pound title, so then he can fight anyone he wants at 147 again without honoring 154 obligations.

I'm sorry but if Floyd or anyone else wants to be a champ in two divisions simultaneously they must fight in both divisions, not just once every blue moon when they feel like it.

That's the Al Haymon way, the savior of boxing.

I don't care how many belts are involved, as long as it's at 147. No higher. The last thing Maidana fans need, are more excuses.

now thats true and I feel that everyone can be up & arms if he doesnt fight a 154 pounder next but its not like he just chose another random 147 pounder. He's having a rematch. Thats why Im giving him a pass because it makes it more understandable. I think some of this has to do with Canelo & Cotto.

Floyd usually feels like he's bigger than the belt but I think he feels if he dumps it and has rematches then they can use something as leverage against him, especially Canelo at 154 if he ends up claiming Floyd's throw away title. On the other hand, that maybe bs also and they are using it as another angle to bring casuals in who dont know any better. Make it sound like he's doing something so special.......lol

He wants to keep the belt just in case Canelo wins against Lara, he wants to rematch Canelo this is what Leonard ellerbe said was a possibility is a rematch should Canelo beat Lara.

No, it's the WBC way. This has nothing to do with Haymon.
