Mayweather wanted 10 million when nobody knew who Cotto was, then when everybody knew who Cotto was (especially Floyd) he said "I'm done with boxing." Floyd ducked 3 fighters in their prime, just think if he fought them all and WON, instead they are not on his resume at all (except for older Cotto.) If you add Margarito, Cotto and Manny all PRIME on Mayweathers resume he might actually have a leg to stand on with his TBE catchphrase.

As for the topic, I still belive Cotto is the only guy who can beat Mayweather at any time in their careers. Would I favor Cotto, no, but today just like I felt back in 2008(ish) it is a 51/49 type of fight. Now it is even closer, like 49.9 to 50.1 I will stay favor Floyd (never picked against him) but I would put my money on Cotto as he has that good of a chance to win.

The WW version of Cotto could not keep up with the movement of a WW version of Mayweather. We all saw what happened at the Jr MW version. If you're using a win over Delvin Rodriguez and a very limited Martinez as a gauge for how the MW version would play out then good luck with that.
No we're using the BEATDOWN of Sergio Martinez, the BEATDOWN of Zab Judah and the competitiveness of the first fight. That is on top of an improved Cotto and a fading Floyd Mayweather.

I'd pick him against the previous versions but I'm not sure he beats the current version of Cotto at 154.

The 2012 Cotto was competitive but this version is a lot better built and more powerful.

How does a win over margarito enhance Floyd's legacy? who has margarito ever beat?

All I know is Cotto barely won 4 rounds against Mayweather when they did fight. Anyways, Cotto is busy checking out WW fighters to defend his middleweight belt against. But yeah, carry on.

W Floyd's style defense he is vulnerable to body attacks. Especially when he lays against ropes. I can't for the life of me figure out why Miguel ever stopped using that Left Hook. But now w Roach having him to his old self and possible better I wouldn't be surprised if Cotto wins a rematch
He stopped using it because it had no effect on Margarito solid body, Clottey's turtle defense, and Pacquiao's speed in and out.
JWW and LMW Cotto could beat Floyd. That stamina though...

Cotto is not improved. Consider the level of opposition and the circumstances in their entirety. Floyd would always beat Cotto. People throw 2008 Cotto around as if Floyd was 37 at the time. Even when they were together at TR, Arum didn't want to throw Cotto in with Floyd because Arum knew how good Floyd was and how it would possibly ruin Cotto before he made a decent ROI which was smart promoting on his part.
