A lot of what Floyd does depends on reflexes, same as every great defensive fighter ever. As his reflexes diminish his defense gets worse. He's certainly not as good as he used to be. Roy knew plenty about slipping and catching and rolling punches. He had plenty of fundamentals. Just because they weren't in a conventional package doesn't mean they weren't there.

Floyd may have an easier style to maintain as he ages than Roy, but no one beats Father Time.

i agree that maidana dictated the pace of the fight, he fought the only fight he could against floyd which was to smother him.. same plan ricky hatton was having success with early on in their fight....but why is floyd not getting credit for allowing maidana to make it a good fight????? floyd could have spun out of the corner if he wanted but elected to fight inside with mm....the same people i see on here saying mm is gonna win or whatever are the same people who were boycotting the first fight and saying floyd was going to run! ridiculous.

What took him so long ?

          Maidana MUST have greater stamina

He must be in greater control of himself when he jumps little JR's azzzzz.

Maidana can take the fight to JR, can throw more punches that JR, land more than JR, and still lose the fight because the judges will Always be in Jr's corner.

We know that Robert Garcia is a smarter coach that Sr. He and Maidana will access the first fight and come up with a good plan to land that solid punch and end poor little Jr's 0.

I hate to say it but due to the judges Maidana MUST KO JR to win.

Well I can't speak for everyone else, but I am a fan of both fighters and I actually said Maidana was going to give him hell before the fight, we can dig up my posts to prove it, but I disagree about just spinning out, it's not always easy to do so depending on what your opponent is doing and most of the lateral steps or pivots available were still within range of Maidana. Maidana is swift enough to cover that distance and pivot while punching, so in reality Maidana put Floyd in a position were lateral movement could be even more dangerous because it requires Floyd to trade balance and invulnerability for repositioning and a new angle, which normally would work, but Maidana isn't readable like that, it's too risky.

If you watch closely, when Maidana counters him and hurts him Floyd gets confused, stops in his tracks, or ties up.

Fighters all the time say things like "I am going to fight his fight" yadayadayada, I have seen enough fights and done my fair share of ringwork to know when someone is playing with fire when they don't have to, and when someone it being pushed, and I wohleheartedly believe Floyd was in deep waters because Maidana took him there and made him fight out of it.

If Floyd outboxes and outhustles Maidana then all credit to him, but Floyd picked his shots and wouldn't go blow for blow, so when Maidana turns it on, if Floyd doesn't hit his counter shot and roll out quickly he is forced to shell up and slip or block the assault, what makes the second fight so interesting is that Maidana should throw even more punches, be more confident, and use his jab much more.

People keep saying Floyd is going to adjust, and he will, but what makes people think he is going to be that effective doing it? He couldn't really neutralize Maidanas assault in the second half of the first fight, history says Floyd always figures out his opponent, but the first fight tells me that's unlikely to happen, and the fact that Maidana is so unorthodox means that he still has that edge, that unpredictability, the explosiveness is so devastating that Floyd cannot afford many mistakes.

I mean, Maidana left unimpressed by Floyd, and Maidana isn't one to say stuff like that for cameras, ,he is a humble honest guy, he isn't trying to sell a rematch, he is being real, that to me is very meaningful, it's huge. If you don't think your opponent can hurt you and you think you are an equal or better figher, that type of a mindset and mental advantage cannot be overlooked going into a fight.

Now when Floyd uses his boxing skill and beats him and win 9-3 rds you will say he ran, but the first fight you said he couldnt "box" because chino wouldnt let him. But its a "robbery" because he won 3 rds total, Cotto made Floyd's nose bleed so he won, it was a robbery, people were on here saying Guerrero was a "robbery", Canelo was a "Robbery" and so on and so forth. you guys are worth a good laugh
Just reading comments and your's is the dumbest one on this site. "Floyd didnt get hurt." yea sure... also, maidana was wearing pillows for gloves. If you don't know the difference between "horse hair" style padding and "foam" style padding, I dont wanna hear **** from anyone about the gloves. No one said the guerrero fight or the canelo fight was a robbery. First time hearing that was from you. Also, mayweather ducked a prime cotto after retiring after the ricky hatton fight. BRING IT MAYWEATHER FANBOYS!!!

Pillows didnt matter to floyd because he doesnt have ko power, oh and victor ortiz doesnt count either.

Floyd can choose anybody, and he chooses not Pacquiao again. Typical.

And he chooses a Golden Boy date, in a place where his promotional company still does not have a license to stage their own fights. So much for leaving GBP behind, eh?
