Am I the only one here that finds it utterly depressing that we now live in a society where professional athletes who get beat up for a living are now apologizing to fans for losing a fight?

    ****ing hell, that's sad.
Why? Some of these guys feel that there are a lot of people pulling for them, their hopes riding with them. In many cases, they're right. Yuri is obviously one of those guys. I think it's pretty cool that he expressed that sentiment to his fans, although he really didn't have to.

I don't know. I can see apologizing in a fight where you get clearly outclassed and schooled on the cards or a fight that you quit or something, but I don't really think a boxer needs to apologize to anybody for giving it his all, taking a serious beating for his efforts, and going out on his shield.

No. No way in hell. But I think Yuri's apology to his fans reflects how much weight he feels he carries. I also think it reflects how disappointed he was with the outcome, that he came up short.

I didn't listen to Gamboa's entire post-fight interview, in part because I can't tolerate the guy they have translating, but mainly because it seemed to me that Yuri wanted to cry. I couldn't stand that, especially after the Herculean effort he put forth. He's a true champion.

Gamboa is still one of my faves. That being said, he's dead wrong about the corner.

He really needs someone to instruct him clearly on a round by round basis, to reign in that dog that comes out of him when he gets hurt. Sometimes family just don't have that authority to take control of other family members.

It's a shame he couldn't stick with Salas. That guy knew when to hold him back and when to "release the dogs". Could have won Yuri the fight.

He expected a lot more of himself even with the challenge he was facing I think his apologizing is him feeling he didn't live up to his and everyone's expectations but thats definitely not the case. Every fan that knew the facts knew this was a toss up . The best thing he can do for his fans is get his **** together and be active and smarter from now on as in fight in his own weight class where he belongs.

Not everyone can be Manny Pacquiao or Floyd going up and doing well against way bigger guys that's why I think it's ridiculous people think that every single fighter has to move up obligatorily which is not really the case maybe it is for guys dying to drain themselves to have an advantage like Broner or the scary looking lightweight Zombie Rios but thats not automatically 100% always the case.

50 probably made Gamboa defend him, just like he had someone write Gamboa's pre-fight press release praising SMS.

I'm sure even 50 knows Gamboa has ruined his career by signing with him. 50 is the wrist active promoter in boxing, and I truly feel sorry for anyone stuck with the washed up rapper that no one listens to anymore.

Yeah thats what i been saying to people nobody will test positive unless they do something ****** **** or the testing is random all year all boxers have to do is get on their cycle and off it with enough time for it not to show up on the tests approaching fight time. The tests they do are a joke nothing more than a formality in my book.

Fighters know their supporters are out there sounding the alarm, putting everyone on notice that their guy is the truth and he's going to win the fight. As long as I can remember, "First off I want to apologize to the fans and everyone I let down. I gave it my best" has been a pretty common sentence to hear in a post-fight interview.

Fans make the champions though. Everyone who watched last weekend wants to see Gamboa again.

Who is disappointed in him? He gave his all and went out on his shield. Isn't that what we always ask of fighters?

Maybe its his corners fault for not having and control or discipline over Gamboa but he wasn't even going into his corner in the last few rounds to listen to them, just pacing about getting riled up.

He was losing the fight and getting dropped. I was wondering what the **** he and his corner were doing.
