I think if GGG beat that Martinez, and in a more spectacular fashion, people wouldn't have given him as much credit as they are with Cotto. That's what I'm getting out of it, whether it might've been true or not.

It's illegitimate because Cotto isn't a middleweight and he won the title at a catchweight. He'd never done a single thing in the division prior, he just walked right into a title shot in a division he'd never fought in at a catchweight with an aging champion who'd been injured and inactive for over a year.

As for Golovkin being a legitimate champion - He's been the WBA champ since 2010, so you must not be paying attention.

It's not that it would be more legit, but some people say GGG isn't the best MW because Sergio is the man of the division, but Sergios team doesn't want the fight yet people still discredit GGG yet he get the shot to prove himself? Now that Cotto has the belt is he going to fight GGG? This the MW division either you fight the best in your division or you relinquish the belt. I don't wanna see Cotto fighting a WW or JMW at catch weight for the Lineal MW title, when GGG has been the #2 behind Sergio for the longest not getting his shot.
