Can someone explain the point of Golovkin-Geale?

Fighting a guy coming off a loss to a domestic-level fighter. It's a lose/lose for Golovkin. I guess if keeps the hype train ticking-over, but someone needs to step this guy up to world level.

I started this thread and I'm British so I don't know why you got all xenophobic there?

There are a lot of fighters that 'were' champions. My point is he lost to Darren barker and hasn't been heard of since. Apparently he won a tune-up in his backyard. I don't want to repeat what I've said in all my posts in this thread already, I just hope his team genuinely pursues a big fight next.

Just gonna throw in my two cents here.
Geale is potentially the toughest contender that Golovkin has faced and IS elite level unless you only define elite level as the top three in the division.
People who talk about GGG having to fight Ward immediately are being a little tough on the dude. When you jump up a weight class you should at least do a tune up fight unless your talking about facing a faded or paper champion this is definitely not the description of Andre.
I see Geale as a great opponent for GGG stylistically also, doesn't back up has good combinations and a great chin. He could be the first guy to give him trouble, although I'm thinking corner stoppage or TKO around round 4.

So how is it that Hopkins can spend his entire MW career racking up title defenses against Allen/Echols/Eastmans of the world in a pursuit to become the undisputed man of the division only to make his name on A-side fighters coming up.

While Golovkin seems to be falling in line with that blueprint and he's blasted.

I'm hoping that after Geale, Golovkin takes on Rubio who has expressed that he'd be willing to fight Golovkin. Of course a fight between Golovkin and Quillin would be a good option but Quillin wants none of that. A fight with Martin Murray would also be a good fight but other than that there aren't many options left for Golovkin at 160.

It's not like Hopkins was undisputed his entire middleweight reign...it was just him and his IBF belt for a lot of years til the tournament came along.

As for Golovkin...while not a "big" fight, but if he can't (and almost certainly won't) get a fight with either of those four, then perhaps revisit Andy Lee...it was already set for earlier this year, and Lee's name has a little more juice in it after the Jackson KO.

If GGG couldn't land any of them that is a good idea. It would be a good BAD main event.
To bad Lee would take a beating, his zero head movement would be target practice.
