People blame Arum but boxing is only half of the job...ya'll see tim bradley everywhere now between fights...when he was a virtual unknown champion with little to no fanbase he was doing what? Sitting at home chilling just like Rigo. You can't sit in little cuba and think the world is coming to you, plus Rigo really isn't that articulate so he ain't gonna do good with talk shows but he'd be hella good on latin boxing showcases doing live analysis for telemundo, televisa, etc like Marquez, Morales, Barrera, and countless other guys have done. You gotta help yourself with the opportunity. It cant all be all the promoter. I really like Rigo but to me he's the equivalent of a rapper with skills that signs to a major label and thinks that's it...no man you gotta keep your own buzz going...don't get out of people's face entirely for 10 months at a time. When was the last time ya'll seen Rigo at the fights? At any HBO boxing show? Marquez is a household name, he earned it the hardway but he's still grinding tv out between fights.

Listen I respect Rigo skills, but what I say below is harsh but truthful.

Anyone who blames Arum for Rigo not being a star or being pushed lose credibility, Rigo was being pushed early by Arum and HBO, **** they gave him an Early title shot as well he succeeded, you can't say he didn't [ush him even got him the Donaire fight, the reaosn Rigo is not a star because his style is boring as hell.

People don't want to see a point fight spar session, its how you deliver a fight and how you rise on the big stage.

Rigo doesn't speak English either so he is hard to market, this has nothing to do with Arum, Arum pushed Rigo hard early. Some guys are really reaching I saw some Cuban boxing channel saying Arum hates Cubans, BS, when he signed Rigo and Gamboa he pushed those guys hard, he got them HBO dates. If he hated them why would he push them, if he hated Gamboa why would he swipe him up from under Gary Shaw?

Gamboa screwed himself over by being difficult to work with during negotiations, and Rigo his style just isn't appealing to fans.

If you invest more money into Rigo you will just take a loss, Arum tried to help him out by saying you have to impress in your next fight, so they gave him a scrub tailormade fighter thinking Rigo would knock him out but instead he chose to pot shot him.

And people mentioning boring american fighters like Ward, well Ward will get pushed because he can speak english, is American gold medalist, Rigo is hard to sell stateside, that is why China is the best bet for Rigo to gain a fanbase and maybe get some big money chinese investors to pay for his fights

Watch Rigondeaux go out with a Willie Casey performance and spark Kokietgym the way Ponce did, and then move on to SHO.

          Would be a little funny.

He needs to be punished until he changes his style and approach to boxing. You know he should be punished...because he knew what was at stake especially after the ridicule he received from the fight he had prior and Arum had to pull out all the stops to get him this date and he still delivered the same boring performance.

Even with the fans booing, he didn't care...he already got our money and said to himself "I'm going to fight my boring style and win"

Sometimes it isn't about just winning, it's about how you win especially when you are fighting an opponent not in your league.

Punishment is in order, let him fight off US television until El Chacel and his moronic manager realizes that fighting on HBO is a privilege....NOT A RIGHT!!!

Arum is evil incarnate but as evil as he is....even he doesn't deserve to promote a sleep inducing, insomnia curing, fighter.

OMG July 19th can't come first enough, then and only then can HBO and Arum give El Chacel and his boxing career death's sweet release.

He is same even when he not fighting....look at the expression of this boring, boring man

WUZZUP RACHEL DONAIRE!? How you doin' today? You STILL mad at Rigo for embarrassing your husband?

Lets Be Honest Here...Arum did not expect him to make it past Donaire, Rigondeaux was never in his plans. After beating Donaire, Arum and HBO just started being Negative towards the guy, as if he went off script and instead of losing to Donaire like they wanted, he made Donaire a Top 5 P4P fighters at the time, look like a complete Amateur.

No way Rigondeaux should want to stay and Re-sign with Top Rank and Bob Arum after the way they treated the guy just because he beat the guy they had high hopes for in Donaire

While I agree, Rigo's style is appreciated more by boxing purists, it doesn't eliminate the possibility of being marketable. It would seem that Arum formulated an early opinion about Rigo and stuck with it, dismissing the success of other boxers that had similar styles. Arum's so-called professional conclusions charted and dictated a path that was doomed to fail. Sure, he did give Rigo a chance, but it cannot be overlooked that, that chance was obviously designed to benefit Donaire. And when it backfired, Arum just quietly did a hand-washing of the whole affair.

That being stated, no amount of justification excuses the fact that a promoter publicly stated that his client is both boring and unmarketable. That statement is counter-productive and destructive to both the client and his career. And it also, sets the stage for under promotion.

I'm having a little difficulty understanding how in the English speaking US, Rigo is a hard sell, but in the Mandarin speaking China, Rigo would flourish.

Perhaps you could expand on your reasoning, because I'm missing how a Spanish speaking boxer is a liability in the US where there is a large Spanish speaking fan-base. But an asset in China where there is a very limited boxing fan-base and even fewer Spanish speaking residents.

Promoters can only do so much. Arum gave the Cuban the exposure he needed and put him in a Pac fight when Donaire's request to be in it got rejected. "Too much ice cream is bad," replied Arum when asked why Donaire was never put in Pac's undercards.

                    Fighters' main promoters are themselves.

You will need a promoter and USA base manager to do that, I remember that his promoter $h1t on him in his finest hour and still doing it...
