"I'm not gonna do that. And Bob Arum told me he cannot deliver (Rios) at 140 pounds. And we're not going up to 147, because that benefits him. My kid fights at 140. Only time he ever fought at 47 was against Bradley, and he came in at 44, because it was an opportunity. Now if there's a Bradley or Pacquiao fight and there's millions of dollars, he's going back to 47. But not for Brandon Rios. (Rios) has to make 40. And I don't believe he can make 40." -Artie Pelullo
They don't say that they want Marquez at 140, but they also don't say that they will move up to 143-144 to fight Marquez. So we're kind of in a grey area I guess.
What I do get out of that though is that they think a Rios fight was too much risk with possible Bradley, Pacquiao, and Marquez fights looming in the future, so they went with Algieri. Too much $$$ on the line to risk it with Rios.
Same thing you blast Marquez for. Marquez could have taken a more risky fight with Provodnikov, but instead went with Alvarado because he has Pacquiao and Bradley fights looming in the future. Too much $$$ on the line to risk it with Provodnikov.
You understand?
But by all means, continue to make Provodnikov out to be a God.
Wow, wow, you just tore him a couple of new holes with that one. You're making too much sense for these idiots here.
I'm surprised by the amout picking "Zit" like it's a blow out. If there are people hyping Provo as a Siberian beast, there are also that picture Marquez as THE ultimate flawless counter puncher technician.
The one thing I saw that really stood out to me in the Alvarado fight was how much smaller JMM was to Alvarado. I mean they looked 2 weight classes in difference.
Let's remember that JMMi s a career lightweight and he's fighting big Jr Welters. His skills are much better than Provodnikov but I just think Provodnikov is bigger and stronger naturally.
JMM would beat on him for about 8 rounds before getting caught by something, or at least running that risk.
I think the risk to reward isn't good enough, and JMM wants a big time payday for his final fights.
That's an insightful comment. I also saw Alvarado much bigger than JMM, he looked like that, two or even three divisions above Marquez, because their bodies looked similar --upper body, we all know Marquez has chicken legs--, yet Alvarado is at least four inches taller than Marquez. So there was an obvious size difference, so we could assume Alvarado had more power on his gloves and he wasn't drained like he was vs. Provodnikov.
Vs. Pro0vodnikiv, Marquez would have to be super-careful because if Alvarado knocked him down and wobbled his legs too, and even pillow-fisted Bradley almost knowcked him down, a clean punch by Provo would definitely put him on the canvas more than once and JMM could get his first KO stoppage because he is older than 40 now, he won't be able to endure three knockdowns in one round like he did with Pac when he was much younger.
I think JMM style would look good against Provodnikov actually, JMM is good against Reckless Pressure, when you come at him in a straight line compared to Bradley or Mayweather who attacked him at angles and being unpredictable
But Provodnikov actually applies pressure A LOT like Katsidis but which much more POWER obviously. I like JMM against Provodnikov personally especially at 147
