This guy above me has just posted the most balances view of the fight. Would RJJ win? No doubt. Would he make it look easy? No. Calzaghe's work rate alone would be enough to make it close, not to mention his own quick hands and the fact that Calzaghe packed some power of his own.

RJJ would of course have the athletic advantage, power advantage and that intangible that most great fighters have but I don't think Jones fought anyone like Calzaghe in their prime. For too long RJJ boxed sparring partners, Calzaghe would be a huge step up for him...and RJJ would be a huge step up for Calzaghe.

Calzaghe's workrate is exactly why it wouldn't be close. Jones in his prime struggled against patient counter-punchers. An aggressive, active puncher played right into his hands.

I said work rate, not aggressive, active puncher. Calzaghe was very calculating and knew when to throw and when to take a step back. He was a master boxer with activity and speed a million miles off of RJJ's b level sluggers.

RJJ still beats him but he wouldn't look like superman doing it.

Active = workrate. Like I said, those were the kind of fighters that Jones ate up. Can't throw a bunch of punches and just step back against an extremely fast, hard-hitting counter-puncher who threw punches in bunches too.

What you're forgetting is Calzaghe never lost a fight. Why? Because he could adapt. Whatever tactics he took into the fight, you could bet it wouldn't be playing into RJJ's hands. And if it wasn't working out, he would adjust, like he always did. Always found a way to win.

You're right, Joe would win. What was I thinking.

He didn't lose a fight because his opposition was poor for the most part.

You're not giving him a fair shake. I'm a big Calzaghe fan, but I'm not delusional over what he accomplished. Go watch all of his fights, try to be open minded, then see if you come back with the same opinion.

Depends. If the fight happens in the UK then Joe would throw a flurry without ever touching Roy and the fight would be stopped. Calzaghe by TKO

Never lost officially. Otherwise Hopkins dropped and schooled him.
