So did HBO make a profit or lose?

Then against Rios, Pacquaio got a $20 million guarantee, while Rios got a $4 million guarantee. And this isn't even counting the undercard. And the PPV buys were under 450K. So did HBO make a profit or lose there too?

Anything that can be said about Showtime/Mayweather, can be said about Pacquaio/HBO. They are both consistently commanding the most expensive purses in professional boxing history.
    Good post impressed!!!

I didnt look at the numbers of the Rios fight in Macau...

i always thought pacman had an 18M garantee, but either way to make that amount with only 450K buys is almost impossible.

I geuss Macau also gave an incentive to come over there but yeah looking at the numbers its almost impossible to break even in Macau with those PPV s IMO

    • Casual fans had no clue who Maidana was, Rematch would probably do A LITTLE BETTER but still under 1 Million

Also Mayweather fighting guys in which going into the fight NOBODY is even given these guys a chance to beat him, most are just HOPING he lose one day at this point

Promoters not doing their ***in Job...PROMOTING! Neither Promotion or Network have yet to introduce or build up NEW STARS into a Draw Yet, they all just riding to Coat Tales Pacquiao and Mayweather. Love Boxing but I am getting tired of Mayweather and Pacquiao as well as JMM and Cotto, respect them all but it is time for these new guys to step up and get these older guys the **** out of here and make room for the next generation. Need one of these young guys to do what Terry Norris did to Sugar Ray Leonard I don't care who it is.

Boxing getting stale and you can see the numbers coming down for everybody for a reason, people are TIRED OF THE SAME ****!

Well considering there are 1000 channels, I would hope it would make it on somewhere.

        It's no longer mainstream though.

ok to make u happy both company lost money, but one company is not paying their fighter a guarantee of 32mil + per fight for 6 fights so yeah one company is losing more money than the other. lmao!

          • I thought credible sources were saying 850-900K??? That's not too bad. Mayweather-Hatton did 920K, and Hatton was a more known name than Maidana.

The thing to take away is this....Mayweather-Maidana did 850-900K....Pacquiao-Maidana would do about 100-150K less probably

            • The gate was still impressive and Mayweather is still the bigger draw than Pacquiao. Everything else is pointless.

Actually I think the 800k PPV buys of Pac are better than the 850k buys of Floyd, because of the bigger names of the undercard. Amir Khan has many fans in the UK, for example.
800,000K is not bad at all for a rematch as people were interested to see if Bradley could really beat Pac for the 2nd time. the controversy sold that well. I believe the same of a Maidana - Floyd rematch.

Only thing i will say is, is the 800,000K official or from Bob Arum numbers?
Is the 850,000 - 900,000K official or media numbers?

Am not sure the last time we got OFFICIAL numbers for a big fight.(apart from Canelo-Floyd) Personally I dont care too much about the numbers but no one should really pay attention to unofficial numbers. too many lies & alibies..lol

I can see that you do not want to give Floyd any credit watsoever for PPV buys so ok, if it makes you happy to think that Floyd had nothing to do with breaking record number PPV TWICE, then what can i say.

Well good point,I did not say that to make a case for it just being about Floyd or Manny tbh..Just curious to what it means for the future..Will May and Pac have to start taking a pay cut of some kind??If so I wonder if this helps get the two promoters to start working with each other..If the networks won't pay for only in house fights anymore,us the fans can win..

I agree with you..Let's be honest tho,Floyd sells himself..Low as it's kept Bradley normally does well with his ratings..He may not draw a lot of people to go out to see him,but he does get good views on cable..Maidana had the backing of the hispanic community period..Not to mention the reg Floyd haters, but all in all Floyd sells these PPV..The last time he had a legit draw was Cotto and Alvarez..Guerrero and Maidana did not help sell the fight at all imo..If anything they hurt it being nobody really believed they had a chance to really win the fight..
