Arum: "Mayweather-Maidana didn't even hit 800,000, it lost a lot of money"

Think about this; how much better off would Showtime he without Mayweather's ridiculous contract? You can't fault Mayweather. You have to fault Showtime. They overvalued Floyd's popularity. There is no doubt that Floyd is extremely talented but his safety first style is not very fan friendly. Yes he did good numbers against Canelo, but that was mainly because of Canelo. The Money team knew that Canelo poised no threat, high reward limited risk, because Canelo is still green and less active than Floyd. I knew Canelo wasn't all that when he fought Trout. Other than Canelo, I don't believe any of Floyd's recent fights were PPV worthy, nor Pac's fights for that matter. These fights are premium cable fights, at best, excluding Marquez v PAC and Canelo v May excluded. Most of these fights are forced upon us and the hardcore fans are the ones who pay. Look how many people watched Marquez v. Alvarado on HBO. You pay Mayweather to fight Guerrero or Maidana on non PPV Showtime for like 10 million you would get more subscribers and double the viewership of that of Marquez v. Alvarado, same with PAC v. Rios on HBO. This is what hurts boxing, these opponents with limited résumés being put on bloated main event cards with very little promotion. The networks do all the promotions not promoters.Comment
