New England is spot on, no one is using the Alvaardo fight as a measuring stick to claim JMM is cheating.

It's the countless other factors, his KO of Pac, a normally iron chinned warrior who JMM barely dented in 36 previous rounds, now at the age of 39 not only drops Pac but drops him HARD and then stops him. Add to that his physique being beyond anything we've seen throughout his career, all of this at a much higher weight than he's used to.

And all this had happened just as a man regarded as one of the biggest cheats in american sports starts to work with him.

    ^^^That's the issue.

Have you thought that Pacquiao just might not be the same anymore since he's not totally into the sport 100% anymore and instead of the ancient style of S&C has switched to a modern style of S&C.

There are a lot of factors thaat come into play it's not always about PEDs stop jumping the gun on the nonsense you guys sound like a bunch of Mayweather Snrs.

Many of the drugs commonly called PEDs nowadays have been around for a long time. Many people seem to think they're somehow new, since their use has been demonized in the sporting community for a relatively short time. Steroids, for instance, have been around since the 1930s. Yet, it wasn't until the so-called "steroid era" in baseball that these and related drugs became widely recognized among the general public. It often takes one greatly publicized event to make everyone aware (and believe they actually are "in the know") with regards to a particular issue.

Steroids became a hot topic in baseball, and therefore in many other sports. (At least, that's the way it worked in the U.S.) But the average fan didn't know that, long before steroids became a scourge, amphetamines (another PED) enjoyed widespread use among the players. Major leaguer ballplayers have been using "uppers" for decades (amphetamines have been around since the late 1800s), yet no one really made a big deal about them and other PEDs until the "steroid era."

The same effect has been seen in boxing. There's no doubt that some ATGs used different forms of PEDs for years. Why not? There was no regulation. No one was breaking any rules for a long time. Now that PEDs in sports are regarded with disdain, it's natural for some people to retroactively apply today's standards to the old-timers. But it just doesn't work that way.

Did Duran use PEDs? There doesn't seem to be any doubt. The quote from the book "Hands of Stone" appears to support that belief. But I don't hold that against Roberto. To the best of my knowledge, he wasn't breaking any rules. Did Roberto's opponents use PEDs? Probably. It's hard to blame them, too. In my opinion, so little was known about PED use among professional athletes a few decades ago, that systematic and truly effective steroid use in boxing was probably unlikely. Hell, Duran himself says he nearly died from that "horse injection" he received.

As to the thread topic, I don't think you can compare Duran's situation with Marquez's deal. Roberto fought in another era, a virtually unregulated time in sports. And there doesn't seem to be any indication he abused PEDs in general, or steroids in particular. There are several signs, circumstantial evidence, that JMM has systematically used PEDs.
