Arum: Oscar realises his CEO was looting his company, we're going to do great things

Promoting in boxing is a tough job, you have to be ruthless, sometimes. It's amazing that in a short time Golden Boy was able to surpass Dibella, Goosen, Main Events, Don King and begin to compete with the top dog in Arum. All of this is because of Richard Schaffer and his dealings with Al Haymon.

good post...gbp would've been in ruins because of oscar's drug addiction if not for schaefer. at the same time schaefer may have took advantage of what happened to dela hoya and put his personal interest over that of gbp's.
oscar may not be that smart but he's a promoter who promoted his own fights. he knows what potential money a ppv card could bring to his company depending on the ppv numbers. i guess he's not happy with his company's financial gains in connection to the success of the ppvs they promoted.Comment

If Oscar really feels that Scheafer was looting his company and was trying to steal it from him (And if that's something he told Arum), do you guys think he was actually serious about repairing his relationship with Scheafer? Both Scheafer and Hoya are already lawyered up the wazoo. When that happens, the only talk that happens is int he court. The nice guy routine Hoya has been pulling in regards to Scheafer is just bull****.Comment

GB become top dog because of Hoya. Back when he was still Hoya the boxer, he used his leverage to get an exclusive output deal with HBO. This caused most of new talent to sign with Golden Boy since they had most of the dates.
Didn't say anything we all didn't know already.
Golden Boy is where it is today largely because of Richard. Love it or hate it.Comment

Roy Jones and Cotto's company were mostly created for tax related reasons. And neither were were the PPV mega stars that Oscar was. Mike Tyson was not a promoter when he fought, but Don King definitely did use Tyson for massive leverage to get dates.Comment

I remember up until about 3-4 years ago most of the peeps on here would call Richard clueless, and just a figurehead check signer for Oscar. Now is seems many people see it as the opposite.
If you step back and look at it. All the other promoters seem to be doing business with each other and HBO. It is business as usual. Golden boy is closed into some triangle with Showtime and Haymon only. They created a bubble for themselves. Is it sustainable long term? It appears Oscar does not see it working that way.Comment
