I agree. Made a thread about it. Difference was Matthysse/Molina had a tension abut it that anything could still happen.

There was a domestic level fight on last night between Travis ****inson and Matty Clarkson that was much better than Matthysse-Molina.

Sorry, but low level guys have slug fests all the time. Doesn't make it FOTY because they are both incapable.

FOTY candidates can only be fights where there is lots of two way action in a competitive back-and-forth fight.

            Gatti-Ward I
            Cotto-Margarito I
            Pacquao-Marquez II
            Marquez-Diaz I
            De la Hoya-Mosley I
            Trinidad-Vargas I
            Cotto-Torres

^^^Stack those up against JMM/Alvarado and see how it pales in comparison.

You can enjoy the ass-kicking and everything but if fighter B is NOT competitive, it cannot be considered for fight of the year. On an added note, Kirkland-Angulo LOOKED like a fight of the year back when it aired live, but that was in reality a one-sided affair. It had my vote for round of the year with that opening stanza, however.

Ruben Olivares, Salvador Sanchez and same Ricardo Lopez should also be considered in such a discussion to choose the best ever of Mexico.
Lots of great names there. Mexico has turned out some awesome fighters.

Yeah, don't even watch the fight, just take other people's opinions and trumpet around like you know what's up.

agreed. I am a huge JMM fan, but I just shook my head when I read larryx and others calling him the best ever from Mexico, I love larryx and he knows his stuff but anyone saying that just doesn't know crap about mexicos boxing history then because Mexico has one of the richest histories in boxing and as great as JMM is he can get lost on a list of great fighters in their history and that's not a knock on JMM that's a compliment to a nation that pumps out champions and legends like it's their main export.

I'll have to watch a few of his fights. To be honest I don't really know enough about his fighting style and abilities. Nacho has definitely made his mark on the sport though. And they said last night he has about 10 young up and coming fighters that will be bursting onto the scene in the next few years. I can't wait to see what he has in store.

Yes, fairly similar style, naturally, except he was a southpaw. Very good counter puncher and tough as hell but he lacked the punching power of Finito and Juan Manuel Marquez. Very good fighter but a notch below those two.

JMM's bro, Rafael, is another awesome fighter that came under Nacho's tutelage.
