Close fight 115-113 Mayweather.
The "robbery" complaints will die down just like the Cotto fight

Close competitive fight, but there's no way that Maidana won that fight. I don't score rounds for guys who just throws without landing consistently. The only time i do that is if the other guy isn't throwing or landing anything. Maidana made it a rough fight and kept Floyd on the ropes and made him uncomfortable, but people are just overreacting a bit if they think Maidana should win this fight on activity alone, while Floyd landed all of the cleaner and effective punches.
Any fighter who use roughhousing tactics and can cut off the ring well will give Floyd problems and make him uncomfortable, but Maidana wasn't landing anything effective consistently. A few overhand right landed here and there, a few jab here and there, but can you think of a round where Maidana consistently hit Floyd upstairs with multiple punches. It was like the Cotto fight, but Cotto didn't fought dirty like Maidana, so it made it looked like Cotto didn't won that many rounds, but i thought Floyd fought better against Maidana than he did against Cotto, Maidana's rough tactics on the ropes just made the fight a lot closer than it really was.Last edited by Carpe Diem; 05-04-2014, 12:54 AM.Comment

No it won't. People dislike this guy so much/love another certain fighter so much that any time Floyd looks mortal and has a close fight, it's a robbery.
Everyone would be doing themselves a favor if you stay off of NSB for several days after tonight.Comment

Yeah no no, those constant left jabs that made Floyd's nose bleed consistently throughout the fight weren't more effective than everything Maidana tried tonight. He also had Floyd puzzled at certain times whereas Maidana just had him working hard the whole fight. This was nothing like the cotto fight at all.
Maidana was landing on Floyd all night but getting caught coming in. Most play-by-plays online seem to be scoring a draw. I hate Floyd so I guess my own score doesn't matter.
On the other hand Cotto wasn't landing at all, he was mystified by the shoulder roll and punching Floyd on the gloves and arm. That fight wasn't even close.
Thing is, I bet guys like you were singing a very different tune right after the Cotto fight. Fast forward a few years and some sensibility and it's "Cotto wasn't landing at all". Same will happen with the Maidana fight.Comment

Workrate and aggression are not scoring criteria. Clean punching is.It was closer than the Cotto fight. Maidana actually built a lead up but let it slip away.
Floyd did the cleaner work bit some of those rounds you have to give Maidana credit for his work rate and aggression over a couple of clean counters.
Still I think 115-113 or possibly 116-112 Floyd was the correct score.Comment

this fight was genuinely close, the Cotto fight was competitive but not that close on the scorecards. No way this fight could be viewed as a robbery, Mayweather is probably the more justly deserving winner. But I definitely did not have a problem with the 114-114 card. There were enough swing rounds in there I think to merit a 117-111 card also for Mayweather, so I am satisfied all around with tonight.Comment

There was no robbery, there was however Maidana being cheated out of his fight by the whole gloves saga, the poor cut he takes away from the fight and a bias ref in Tony Weeks.
I don't believe Maidana had a chance at beating Floyd but that glove move was pretty **** on TMT's behalf.
Maidana had a close scrap with him but this was based more on the fact Floyd tried being brave tonight rather than his usual sleek and elusive self. He never fights like a challenger usually and today he just became slightly unseated with Maidanas approach and seeing his own blood.
He will look back at his performance and realise his errors, and if a rematch does happen which there is no reason for, with Maidana's proper gloves aswell, realistically he doesn't stand a chance.Comment
