For a boxer winning gold in the olympics means nothing, it's a bunch of part time boxers that can't cut it in the pro's for the most part. Let alone being able to compete with guys like Mayweather or Klitschko. Why are we even arguing? Can you name me one olympic boxer that's world class - on Floyds or Klitschko's level?
I'm confident that boxers like Cammerelle would fancy his chances against Wlad in a 3 rounder. Absolutely.
Look, if EVERY world class boxer entered the olympics it'd be different, then there wouldn't be all these amateurs and part time boxers and truck drivers you have to fight, it'd be the best boxers on the planet. That'd be fine. But if ONE world class guy like Klitschko shows up there to fight these amateurs it's beyond pathetic. They are no competition, he's gonna beat them one handed with both eyes closed.
Of course it would be for everybody! All pros could participated if they want.
Yes, technically you're right in terms of the rules but if you don't see that this is completely different with boxing compared to sprinting or swimming and just a joke overall then I don't know.
I dont see the difference sorry.

So why not turn pro, get paid 20 mil. per fight and be the best in the world? Is he too ****** to fight more than 3 rounds? Is he too rich, he doesn't need the money? Is he too good, he doesn't have to prove himself so he keeps fighting amateurs? Who knows.

That's what you don't get. Nobody does it because it's beyond pathetic to even think about doing it. And there are rules that keep guys like Klitschko from doing so, for good reason. If you have 15 pro fights or more you're not allowed to fight in the olympics, everybody knows why, because it's a step down. You don't get it. Oh well.

By the way Football at the Olympics is for the U-23. You can only have three older players in your team.

World Cups and Continental Championships are much more important to these countries.

Pro Boxing at the Olympics? I don't like it. No other olympic sport works like pro Boxing. Give me an example if you have one.

Somebody come with a reasonable argument please.
Why? Because the object of the other sports you mentioned are NOT to physically maim (concuss) your opponent(s).

Why did Kobe and Lebron go to London then? Beckham wanted to be selected too. And I'm sure I'm missing other high-profile athletes.

These guys are international superstars, they are multi-millionaires who have won (almost) everything in their respective sports.

                  Money isn't everything that's why.

No I dont get it. There's more to life than money. An olympic medal for example.

And a professional World title will also be more important than an olympic medal for some boxers. Same thing.

Hmmm. Maybe tennis? Baseball? The olympics was only recently opened for procyclists.

Dumb comparison, again. You act like only ONE NBA player showed up there. Everybody in the NBA went. Both Gasol's went (Spain), Ibaka, all the great players from every nation. What does this have to do with boxing where ONE world class dude is trying to fight amateurs? And playing against Carmelo Anthony is not the same as fighting Klitschko. Anthony might wipe the floor with you and score like crazy. Klitschko is gonna mess you up physically. Imagine the chumps he's gonna fight at the beginning. What a joke. Thank god they were smart enough to put in certain rules to protect those fighters from scumbags like Klitschko.
