The 'funny' thing is that some of the posters giving Marciano zero credit is the same ones that says the current HW era is the worst ever. I mean how bad was the Marciano era if a totally washed up Louis is the no. 1 ranked HW?

Louis was SO past it when he fought Marciano, who was basically smack dab in his prime.

4 or 5 out of 10. 4 points for it being Louis, and maybe another for getting the KO

At least Marciano faced Walcott, Archie Moore, and Ezzard Charles. Those guys could fight.

The current HW era has no one that is even close to those three in terms of ability.

Its one of the most memorable KO's in boxing history

Louis was way past his prime but it was a competitive fight before the KO
That should be to Marciano's detriment, he was at time getting outlanded and out boxed by an aged fighter on the verge of being shot. This fight shows us just how Marciano built his time at the time, by fighting aged fighters and getting outboxed but having enough heart, grit and power to win. That is in no ways an insult, it's incredible how Marciano was probably the most limited heavyweight pre-1980s yet managed to become one of the greats.

No, Tyson gets 000000000000000000 credit, Holmes was so fat and old in that fight it's laughable.

Holmes was not that out of it. Is Martinez so old that a victory over him is laughable? He's the same age as Holmes.

And Holmes was not fat and badly out of shape. He showed decent movement - his jab wasn't as it was a few years earlier and he needed that to keep Tyson off.

Watch the fight again Holmes was competitive for the first three rounds and winning one of them before being caught in the 4th.

Since Marciano gets little/no credit, then why do people give credit to Lewis for beating Tyson/Holyfield?

Both Tyson and Holyfield were past their best. Specially Tyson and yet they act like Lewis has done miracles at HW.

Lewis get's less credit for Tyson that Marciano does for Louis IMO.

Neither grant too much credit though.

Louis is arguably the greatest heavyweight boxer in history and even though he was past his best he would have still beaten many of the best boxers around at the time.
