That is the only reason why he gets a free pass. Had he been a Heavyweight champion like Evander Holyfield, Mike Tyson or even Jack Johnson with that kind of fighting style, then the bar of excellence would have been set much higher for him.

Moreover, he would have been excoriated badly and very rightfully so because of it; By not only boxing fans but by the boxing media/press alike; Which includes the likes of HBO boxing personalities such as: Larry Merchant, Jim Lampley and Max Kellerman whom all appear to be his staunchest supporters.

However since he's not, the bar of excellence is set much lower for him, in regards to all the great Heavyweight champions of the past. Which is for obvious reasons and it just so happens to be the major reason, why he is still so popular among boxing fans even today and it has very little to do with his ring performances.

Regardless of how he fights. If Wlad happened to be a farm boy from Iowa or a Italian boy from Brooklyn, NY most American fans would think he was the greatest thing since sliced bread. And white bread to boot.

your point is kind of true... Tyson, ray lewis, o.j simpson, Michael vick & numerous other convicted felons still have a fan base. magic Johnson gets aids & he is still a hero but tommy Morrison gets aids & he is cast aside & gets ridiculed for doing the exact same thing as magic... ok magic was more well known but who didn't see rocky 5 or 12 with tommy gunn?

Ray Lewis is not a convicted felon. He plead out to a misdemeanor charge of obstruction of justice and was in fact the only one in that situation to be convicted of anything. And comparing Magic Johnson and Tommy Morrison's situations is as ridiculous as it is laughable. Unless of course Magic was also convicted of multiple DWI's as well as weapons and drug charges to go along with assault charges. I am also pretty sure that Magic is not a convicted felon who spent time in prison as Tommy had done. And I was a fan of "The Duke". With that said you really should try doing some fact checking before making such comments.

The biggest difference is of the names you've mentioned; Unlike Wladimir, all of them were highly entertaining and gave crowd pleasing performances, which were the sole reasons behind their popularity and fan base and nothing else.

Wladimir is probably the main reason why boxing in general is on the decline because he represents the most prestigious title in all of the sports world, which is the Heavyweight championship. This is especially true among casual fans and is largely due to his uncharismatic boxing style and dirty fighting tactics, which often goes unnoticed and unpenalized by the officials; Especially the referees and turns fans off.

This whole line of thought is a red herring. it seeks to absolve the Klitschkos of any responsability for acting out of the interests of their fans, or challenging themselves in the ring. Dealing with Vlad, since he is not retired it is pretty obvious that he does not go out of his way to fight guys who might spark him. What should have been done is this mandatory should have gone by the wayside and instead a fight with Tyson Fury, or any other of legitimate threats should have been arrainged.

The BS about race is because the Klitschkos have always gotten a pass regarding their negotiating tactics and choices of opposition. It came to a head when Vlad's last fight showed that even against opposition totally lacking.....he still resorted to protecting his interests above all else, which is all these guys and their team have ever been about. Yes fighters look after number one but these guys choose **** and try to sell it as a rose.

Which is the real reason why Vlad is despised by many....including yours truly.
