Huh? I would say 90% of Haymon fights are GBP fighters. How is he not responsible for it?
Golden Boy also does all of the promotions for any Floyd card as well. Sure, Floyd Mayweather Promotions is the 'lead promoter' but GBP does all of the legwork.Comment

Haymon manages and promotes his own fighters, they're separate from other GBP fighters. He has to use a promoter like GBP or Dibella as a go-between because it's illegal in America to both manage and promote a fighter, so Haymon gets around this by officially serving as neither, instead calling himself an "adviser."
But make no mistake; he's making the matchups, he's securing the purses, he's making the TV deals, he's got a big hand in choosing the undercard.
He's in total control the way Don King was, expect it looks like he doesn't steal all of his fighter's money.Last edited by paulf; 04-25-2014, 09:26 AM.Comment

I don't think people realise how things work in the real world. De La Hoya firing Schaefer would be one of the ******est things he could do. If Oscar had an active role in the company, it would be a viable option; however, as things stand, Schaefer is the one who has put in most of the work, which means Schaefer is the one with the connections.
Their method of developing and finding talent would likely suffer. Favourable TV dates would be lost, and existing fighters ( Who are signed with Al Haymon) would more than likely leave as soon as their contract expires.
In addition to all of that, I don't see how Schaefer is the villain in this situation. Arum is constantly trying to tarnish the image of GBP, so it stands to reason that they wouldn't do business with one another. It's like people can focus on the person who gives a direct answer, but overlook the man who stirs up the bad blood resulting in the unfavourable answer.Comment

That's exactly what I thought from my first reading of this. Good post. With the exception of any Canelo PPV event, that is. He's the flagship fighter and something to build around, so maybe I was a bit harsh.
If this happens, I would love to see Oscar reach out to DiBella and/or Goosen and offer them partnership and give either of them Schaefer's job. That is the only way we would have three big promotional companies. But I think we all know that is not going to happen.
Nevertheless, I am on Schaefer's side on this dispute. DLH is an ungrateful brick.Comment

Also have to note that Arum was the one flat-out refusing to have anything to do with GBP back when he had Pacquiao, Doanire, Gamboa, Pavlik, Rios, Lopez, etc. riding high.
Now that Arums stable has thinned a bit, and GBP has grown by leaps and bounds by teaming up with Showtimes and Haymon, it's only natural Richard would want to tell Arum to **** off.Comment

I hear you but don't you like the fact that Oscar is becoming more understanding and turning into a better person?Originally posted by THE REED™Just read he entire article. You know fans love to criticize him for his affairs and not wanting to deal with Arum and now he wants to and still gets killed for it.
I would love nothing more than to see TR and GB come together and promote some fights. Canelo vs Pac would be incredible, Pac vs Mayweather, I mean there's so many good fights to be had and we need to get back to that.
The fact Shaeffer is doing this in public, shows me there's a definite rift between him and Oscar. You keep things behind closed doors, you don't challenge the president of the company in public.
Bad move.Comment
