This. Porter beat Paulie nearly the same way Cotto did all those years back, it reminded me of that fight a bit. Porter was landing short shots on the inside and using a little "rough house" tactics using his forearm and such. People need to understand that IS part of boxing, as an inside fighter you're supposed to do things that the ref can't see, that's what makes a great inside fighter.

Porter will be a star, I think he is the real deal but he is certainly still a bit green. His punches are much to wide and when he comes in lunging his hands are really far down and a counter hook will put him down possibly. That being said he is only 23 and only going to get better, I'm a little worried having his father train him (I usually think that's a bad idea) but we'll see if he cleans up his defense a bit and doesn't have him open up so much with power shots. Still he is a strong as an ox and has a really nice jab and he stuck with it to beat Paulie which set up his power shots, he's a very good fighter.

He arguably lost to Julio Diaz not so long ago. It's just the usual stuff around here - over the top reacting to one great performance.

What?? Paulie won plenty of rounds against Cotto and was absolutely blitzed by Porter.

Wouldn't call his hook sneaky - it's good and powerful - but he leaps off his feet when he throws it.
Having a short reach isn't necessarily a disadvantage. It means you can throw harder hooks and uppercuts

And when I was watching the Porter vs Malinaggi fight and he would jump and land a hook, I was surprised because I didn't think he was that coordinated to land that on a defensive fighter. Thats a Roy Jones move

He fought the right style vs malinaggi and alexander. I think that he can give most ww a lot of trouble by imposing his physical style. A bit crude but pretty effective and fun to watch.

He seems a real nice and humble guy but I am not sold on him either.
He is like a little pitbull, very strong kid & explosive but realistically speaking he did what really he should. Isn't that what a guy with his assets should be doing to a fighter who hasn't the power to command anybodies respect?

You're probably not going to outbox Paulie, he can't hurt you and has no inside fighting ability of note so get in his grill and rough him the hell up. Smash lumps out of that body and limit his movement.

I do think he is improving and I feel his jab especially has come on a lot but I think he is raw. Fighters should look to get him now before he improves further.

He has a very sneaky hook that he hurt Malinaggi with

I think he fought alittle wildly because Malinaggi was talking **** and couldn't bust a g****.

Hes a much better fighter than Thurman who was exposed by Diego Chaves
Only thing Diego exposed in Thurman is that Thurman has an effective Plan B. Chaves would probably beat Porter, Chaves is a damn good fighter.

Porter drew with Diaz, looked liek **** against New Ray Robinson and Lo Greco. Let's calm down now.

He has a nice hard jab even though he has a short reach. He was landing on Paulie and he was bothered by it. This is only going to help him in other fights. Porter is a smart fighter as well he confused Paulie when he would sit back sometimes and switch it up going in and out. Like I said before he made me a fan that night and can't wait to see him again. He would give anybody trouble at 147 outside of Mayweather and pac (maybe).

Even in how he dismantled both I saw holes in his defense, so I'm not sold, don't understand how everyone else is. When you got a fighter like Porter, one who operates in that kind of a style, isn't it logical to see how well he knows how to pick his spots and isn't he suppose to show that against a good counter puncher with good power?
Co-sign, i'm not sold on him either. I'd wait to see him get in with a decent B+/A- boxer-puncher and see how he performs. Too open for counters, lunges in hands down, and isn't ecomical with his punches.
