    1) Malignaggi held his own on the inside clinches physically

    - that surprised me as Malignaggi really isn't known for being the strongest fighter - especially as he's really a natural 140 pounder. Of course this was just based on the 1½ rounds where he actually had his full faculties with him.

    2) Lack of technique

    - Porter leaps in on many occasions, without purpose. He swings wildly time after time AFTER Malignaggi was hurt which shows a little lack of composure and something that could hurt him when he moves up against bigger stronger guys.

    3) Complaining

    - He complained after the first round that Malignaggi punched him behind the head. As the going gets tough, he needs to show up in the big fights. What is he going to do when a Maidana will smash him up everywhere from the hips and upwards?

Of course, some of these points may not apply to him further down the line - and other than the points above, he looks an awesome prospect.

    What do you think?
1 -He held his won for 1 1/2 rounds and that really doesn't tell us much. Plus, we don't need to see Porter push Paulie around to understand he's much stronger than him. This isn't MMA.

2 - I think that he only did that when he had Paulie hurt. He can box, we have seen that from him especially against Alexander. I think the game plan was to come in and swarm Paulie which he did and btw, Paulie even said he would do that as well.

Porter is a huge 147, remember, he's fought at 160 before.

3 - You don't want to get hit behind the head PERIOD. It hurts and it doesn't mean he was being a baby about it or being weak, he just wanted the ref to know it was happening.

I think Porter is one of the most improved fighters of the last 2 years. He is incredibly strong, fast, quick, can box and seems to be getting better and better. Julio Diaz is a veteran who I thought beat him in their first fight, Porter adjusted, and beat him the second time around.

Porter is going to be good.

Looking at that fight agian Porter has a right to complain at all the rabbit punching that Paulie was landing on him

He showed that he had the better jab that night.

I wouldn't mind seeing a Porter/Bradley fight. Porter just has the better balance of the two

I like Porter. He clearly has flaws and areas he can clean up, but the framework is there. He seems to understand his role in the ring, staying outside when he needs to be patient, choosing the right punches and closing the distance when he needs to close the distance.

He can definitely improve his inside game if he stays xalmer and picks his shots rather going all out (could just have been the gameplan vs Paulie and Devon tbf) and he seems to smother himself sometimes too.

No matter what though if he keeps improving and fighting this style his career is going to be fun to watch.

I think he beats Brook quite comfortably.

I don't think that leaping left hook is a problem as long as he uses it at the right time and against the right opponents. Against Malignaggi ir was perfect because Paulie cant defend the left hook and was pulling straight back. He also had no power to hurt Porter if he tried to counter... Against other opponents it could get him in trouble, but if he uses it sparingly as a shock tactic and sets it up well with feints etc he'll be fine imo

paulie was holding his own in the clinches.

paulie was getting his ass kicked in the clinches.

can you imagine the noise the brits would be making if porter were one of their own? porter is just some kid who was too small to play high level football. we are all shawn porter.
