And I can't blame him for wanting to bail if he sees gold with haymon and company. Chavez isn't a guy top rank has invested money in and lost money on or are just recovering money from him as is the case with fighters like Garcia or donaire. Chavez has always made them money
Yes... Top Rank offered the fight...
What else TR offered Jr? $1 million penalty for failing to make weight...

March 28, 2014 (Source: The Ring):

"Negotiations for a 168-pound bout on July 19 between Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and WBA middleweight titleholder Gennady Golovkin include a penalty of $1 million if either fighter fails to make weight, Top Rank Promotions CEO Bob Arum informed ******.com on Friday."

    • Cotto was the last fighter to escape from Top Rank. Since Cotto left, Arum has been pulling this stunt where he offers fighters a big fight with a big purse, but only if they sign a contract extension. That is why we haven't seen more defections from Top Rank. The ****** ones, like Bradley, fall for it and sign the extension. The smart ones, like Garcia and Chavez Jr. refuse.

I would be willing to bet that Arum isn't allowing any of his fighters to see how much money he makes off their fights because, if they knew, they would all demand significantly more money per fight.

I hope Chavez Jr. sticks to his guns and refuses to sign an extension. If Arum won't give him the GGG fight as a result, fight someone else, end the contract and sign with Haymon and then fight GGG independent of Arum.

Do you think Chavez Jr. will sign to fight GGG?
Why isn't Junior signing the fight? Does he have to sign an extension? Is he satisfied with the numbers? Let's think like grownups. Did you read the article? He was very candid about what happened with his father, etc. I'm not a Chavez fan but I'm always glad to see a fighter use his head. And of course to some that means whittle the conversation down to simplistic things like "ducking."

Chavez Jr in talks with Al Haymon
            April 18th, 2014

"Former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. is reportedly in discussions with the high powered adviser Al Haymon, according to Dan Rafael. Chavez Jr. is reported to have been offered $47 million to sign with Haymon, according to es-us.deportes.yaoo.com. Chavez Jr. still has 9 months left on his existing contract with Top Rank, however, and that’s a lot of time left to set up the fight that could send Chavez Jr. to Haymon in stitches against Gennady Golovkin."

                I didn't say he's ducking...
... If Al Haymon gives Jr. that amount of money the kid must have earn it... Good for him.

                • This has probably been mentioned a few times, I just don't have the heart to wade through 20 pages...

What is the end game here? Chavez vs. the winner of Hopkins-Stevenson? Winner of Quillin-Jacobs? And we lose the GGG fight. Wonderful.

That is a good question. I don't think Al Haymon is looking that far ahead with Jr. I think for the time being, stealing a ratings machine like Chavez away from top rival HBO and Top Rank is their prime objective.

Once he falls with Showtime they'll have no shortage of opponents they can choose from. Chavez vs Hopkins for one, or even a catch weight at 164 between Canelo and Chavez Jr. Not to mention they can always lure GGG to Showtime. Don't know how GGG's contract with HBO is structured, but I wouldn't be surprised if Haymon isn't in GGG's ear later, just like I wouldn't be surprised if Haymon isn't in Kovalev's ear about jumping ship.

The end game to me really seems to be that Haymon and GBP are trying to stick it to HBO for refusing to do business with them. Seems like they want to squeeze HBO so that they give in and allow their fighters to once again partake in their network.

                    • Not interested in this TV networks war... If Showtime gets all the top fighters it doesn't matter as long as they produce the "true" fights...

(It's funny that HBO Sports started to lose since Hershman switched from Showtime to HBO...)
