I would be satisfied if Maidana performs better than most expect him to. I also think Maidana's rangey awkward punches allow for him to be a danger in the middle of the ring as well as on the ropes. Its really about whether Floyd fights more flatfooted, as he did against certain fighters, or whether he will get on his bike potshotting early. From what little I can gather, he said Maidana "outhustled" Broner as if that was the mistake that needed to be rectified. As a result I think Floyd has in his mind to throw alot of punches to win rounds...to walk chino down in a more flatfooted fashion perhaps, as he did against Ortiz.. Mosley.. and other "big punchers". And like I said that could give wings to Chino's awkward range in the middle of the ring.
Id be satisfied with an 8-4 fight though.
I have never made such comments about any other fight.
Canelo I felt was too green. A kid that would get outfoxed. The first outfoxing move was a damn catchweight.
Cotto was too war torn.. wouldnt have endurance against counters because of a "stopped man's" mindset.
Guerrero betrayed himself and his inferior mindset with his overly sanctimonious uttering. He's david.. so Floyd is Goliath? A giant eh?.. thats a man who lost before he even set foot in the ring.
Ortiz I chalked up as not able to endure adversity enough to overcome Floyd.
Mosley Sounded good at first till I saw how he was training for the fight and I heard his trainer talk.. effectively making Mosley mentally apprehensive of what May will become when you clock him. A dragon, indeed!
Marquez too small and bad style matchup.
that covers his recent fights and what I thought leading up to each one
The clue to me is in the promotion. They are treating Maidana as tba. Floyd is exec producer or whatever and has a hand in treating Maidana as tba in promotion. They marketed Ghosts dumbass better. Part of it is Maidana's no nonsense demeanor as well... just begs someone to overlook him.
Broner is a gifted athlete as well... its his craft and intangibles that failed him.
Floyd usually has a great mindset.. has sharp craft.. and is in tip top shape.. little nuances I see suggest he's batting with 2 out of three of those for this fight.
there is an inherent element of underestimation in the very concept of giving someone the benefit of the doubt..he needs to be prepared for the possibility of his trickery not working as well this time. He needs to be ready for a war of attrition. I think his gilded halls will eventually corrupt him. Hes not soft of form or technique.. but his spirit is getting a little softer.. I feel. That which makes him a fighter and not just a boxer with nice tricks. If hes taken to the wire how will he respond. No one has taken him to the wire in a hot minute.. Mosley tried but then mentally folded.
The promotion (or lack therof) of Maidana, which Floyd has a hand in, suggests otherwise.
I think most level headed fans agree Chino is not consistent with his conditioning and development of craft throughout his career. Thats what keeps the man from p4p because he certainly has the fight and power for it. But I believe from what Ive seen of his training that Floyd is getting the best version of Chino. A beast that will be a challenge of will and heart for all 12 rounds. He's going to leave everything in the ring. Everything. Will Floyd? Can he? Can he even muster that anymore? Or have his gilded halls and spoils of war dulled his edge.... without anyone even realizing?
