The MGM has a longstanding relationship with Mayweather. Arum tried to cut them off by booking at the same venue a few weeks before, and assumed it would lead to the MGM not promoting Floyds fight until after Pacquiao's was over. Didn't happen; his plan backfired, and it turned out his bout was the one whose promotion got diluted.

MGM isn't losing out on anything. If TR takes their fights to the T&M center, the only one getting ****ed over is the fans, because that's a garbage ass place to watch a fight.

Top Rank has a longer and better track record of creating stars...and so, in the long run, I'd take the odds of Top Rank (through HBO) developing their fighters (as long as they can retain them)...with guys like Oscar Valdez, Zou Shiming, Jesse Magdaleno, Felix Verdejo et al. over what GBP is doing.

And the people talking about the landscape right now, and reducing this to a Pac/Mayweather discussion are foolish...because neither is going to be around all that much longer.

I'd put my money on Top Rank being in a better position than GBP in three years.

They own like 5 hotels or something.....there are some big boys they have no impact on...a rival hotel, any rival hotel that starts to promote fights will put a dent in their game as they only utilize the MGM to make bank off of PPV boxing matches.

They don't own the Venetian, the Palazzo, Ceasar's Palace, Palms, Mandarin, Trump International, 4 Seasons, Weston, etc. MGM isn't the only game in town.

What's the latest on the All Net Arena and Resort? December 2016 is the target date...and the location would be much closer to Wynn.

          All Net Arena and Resort

          Las Vegas, Nevada

Cuningham Group is designing the next major attraction on the Las Vegas Strip—the new $1.3 billion All Net Arena and Resort. The 27-acre project is scheduled to break ground in spring of 2014 with a planned opening in December of 2016.

Located between SLS Las Vegas Hotel Casino and the Fontainebleau, the world class arena will feature four levels, a total of 862,500 square feet, a classic restaurant and night club, 75 luxury box suites, and a retractable roof. Seating capacity will accommodate 22,000 for basketball; 21,600 for hockey, boxing and rodeo; and 22,800 for concerts and conventions.

A unique element planned for the complex is Victory Plaza, a 300,000-square-foot promenade that will lead visitors from Las Vegas Boulevard through lush landscaping, fine dining and retail, as well as outdoor seating, staging and water features. The Plaza is designed to change themes for specific events, activities, holidays and celebrations. A luxurious boutique Five-Star Spa Hotel with 500 specialty suites will round out the attraction’s major amenities.

Weaknesses: MGM is bleeding cash now because of its large debt $13.5B debt load. Interest expense on that debt was $857M in 2013, accounting for its 2013 loss of $157M despite nearly $10B in revenue. This company can’t even handle low interest rates, let alone high ones. Though some of its debt is fixed rate, not nearly enough of it is, and high interest rates will fleece MGM, as admitted in its 10-K (page 14).

And? Are they going out of business or something?

                      Don't count on it.
