  • 40 million fair deal or a bad joke(debate)?

    Hi y'all,

    after watching firsttake:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DuTcUaRgEXw

I'm asking myself if offering 40 million(NO PPV to Pacman) is reasonable or not...

same site gave an indication of what some of the biggest boxing draws made in history, although i have my doubts whether its 100% accurate it is a fair indication i geuss

    1. Oscar de la Hoya – $53 million
    2. Evander Holyfield – $35 million
    3. Floyd Mayweather Jr. – $32 million
    4. Wladimir Klitschko – $32 million
    5. David Haye – $32 million
    6. Mike Tyson – $30 million
    7. Lennox Lewis – $30 million
    8. Manny Pacquiao – $25 million
    9. Vitali Klitschko – $15 million
    10. Miguel Cotto – $8 million

with this information no one can tell me that 40 million is pocket change. More importantly couldn't manny if he would beat mayweather renegotiate the terms and give mayweather the same cut??? Or would this be impossible? A lot of challengers on the B-side are more than willing to take less than they deserve in the first fight to become the number one. And after they win they(predict to) start calling the shots.(example Amir Khan was willing to take less than he thought he deserved).

Will history and boxing fans really consider the 40 million offer the biggest joke ever????????

first of all he didn't offer manny pacquiao the man 40 million because manny pacquiao is promoted by top rank. he can't just leave and accept any offer. he has a legal contract. so floyd offered top rank and manny pac 40 mill(over the phone very official) so then if you look at the numbers top rank usually makes over 40 million per pac fight so accepting less to do the biggest fight in boxing history doesn't make a lot of sense now does it? if you subtract top rank's usual cut pac wouldn't even make his biggest payday either. also the total amount generated for this fight would almost certainly exceed 200 million so 160 million to 40 million? is that really fair? does floyd generate 4 times as much as pac? no not even close. so no it wasn't a good offer. yes it was a joke to anyone who understands simple concepts, but it was a great offer for any simpleton who doesn't like to think.

If I'm not mistaken the no PPV part is a bunch of BS. I have no doubt that no PPV was Mannys interpretation of the offer but I could of swore I heard Floyd say in an enter view that they never got a chance to discuss the money on the back end. Meaning Floyd was willing to give Manny some percentage of the PPV.

I try not to get too caught up in the business, but Pacquiao wanted a 50-50 split. At that time, that was perfectly fair and what he deserved. Pac also said he'd get a flat rate with no PPV. That's bogus. There was a ton of money to be made from that fight, and Pacquiao had every right to half of it. That's my take at least. Also, Floyd says here's $40 mil while I make a boatload more? Screw that.

OF course its a very bad joke of a deal. That is greed to take ALL of the PPV money. I don't care about who's on the A side B side BS. They both should get 50% of the PPV money. They're the top 2 boxers in the world period.

              think about it this way
$40 mill is 1 slice of a pizza pie cut in 8 pieces, would you order a whole pie if you were to eat just 1 slice?

what'll fix the issue? 55-45 or even 60-40 to the winner.. END OF NEGOTIATIONS

You honestly could make a good case for both fighters demands...Floyd and Pac will make more than they both ever have for one fight with each other. No way in the world anybody can say 40mil is small change and Manny has never made 40mil in one fight, but Floyd has. In Pac's defense, him being part of the highest grossing fight in the history of the sport, that alone should get him a bigger piece of the pie because it cannot be the highest grossing without Pac!!

Now im just being honest when I say team Pac has used Floyd to promote Pac for years now..They always talk about Floyd when Manny fights, no matter if Manny is fighting a washed up, used to be good fighter. Floyd also gets crapped on for fighting even better versions of people and Pac gets a pass for fighting the same guy when he's in worse shape than when Floyd fights them..That means they are clearly on different levels!! Nobody expects the same things from Pac as they do from Floyd so they cannot be equals..At the end of the day I personally say that Pac deserves a little more than 40mil, but if I had to be a judge in this case, I would rule in Floyd's favor easily.

                  Check this

If you go on youtube and plug in Mayweather offers Pacquiao 40 million there's an interview where you can see first hand what he says.
Here's where Mayweather talks about what he offered Pacquiao. He does mention discussing the ppv. From what I've seen when this topic is brought up people always say that Mayweather have him a flat rate.

He did. He said, "That doesn't even cover the back end."

Second, I don't know who is the dummy (daggum)that said the $40m will go to Top Rank and not Pacquiao. I had no idea all the revenue had been counted before the fight took place. Stick to cracking stale jokes because that post sounded like one.

Anyway, Pacquiao felt like it was a bad deal and I can't fault a guy for feeling that way. But maybe, just maybe, he should have Top Rank open their books so he truly knows what his value is.
