But Johnson did have a very good win against up-coming prospect Lamar Parks, a heavy-handed little attacker with decent body punching if I remember.

Yes Hagler was a complete and utter machine.

I'm out drinking for the night...hope I don't come back to "Toney is a bum" and "Hagler destroys Toney" posts...

I posted that once, I'll repeat it.

Hagler would swarm JT's ass from round 1 to 12.

        Hagler 118-109.

Gringo, he lost to Johnson and Tiberi. They aren't nearly as controversial as his losses to Griffin but it can be argued that he's lost 5 times at Middleweight.

Doesn't change the fact that he get's smacked around against crafty fighters. He looks bloody great when he's fighting plodding, face first fighters.

Jones was possibly the worst style fight for him...and yes Jones smacked him around.
I came a little when you said that.

Even so, Toney and Hagler would have battled till the end, both guys having their moments...but Marvins determination would be VERY clear in the late rounds of the fight and he'd take a decision. Toney's handspeed and natural skills would keep him very competitive throughout the fight.

Neither guy gets knocked out...this isn't a beat-down anyway you slice it. I know we'll get some people who hate Toney in here claiming that...but I could never see it happening.

Hagler UD Toney. This would be my all-time gavorite fight to watch (if it was ever possible) as these are two of my 3 favs ever.
correct, at Middleweight, Toney was still a work in progress and struggled to make weight.

Hagler would be much too tough for Toney at that weight. No knockout, but a clear decision victory. Hagler's conditioning was second to none...and that would be his biggest advantage .

Toney vs. McClellan would be a fight worth watching.

McClellan was physically able to out-box him with jabbing ability, timing and how well he circled opponents and picked them off. McClellan was able to use the ring well and Toney wouldn't be able to cope with a fighter boxing on the move against him (because Toney was abit static and planted and not very rangey). But mentally, McClellan was impatient and would of wanted to blast Toney out of there with body shots as early as poss. So mentally I don't think McClellan had in him to be willing to go 12 rounds, his quote was "why hang around for 12 rounds when I can get the job done in one?".

IMO, Toney only looks good against wide open defensive fighters. Stationary guys that load up are easy work for Toney and Mclellan was one of those once he started falling in love with his power.

A prime James Toney at 160 was an all time great. His style would have been very difficult for Marvin. On the other hand Marvin's ability to switch from right handed to southpaw so smoothly would have caused James some problems.

Based on style differences and work rate, I'd have to go with Marvin.
